You, Yourself, Your Selfie, Your Selfish Self

Look up,
away from your phones and gadgets
into people's eyes,
around you.
Live!

Such an irony, isn't it?

You.

A generation showered with "likes" yet filled with hate;
of hundreds of "friends" yet alone;
of thousands of "followers" yet lonely;
of "selfies" yet full of self loathing and insecurities;
of instant gratification yet hallowed and empty.

You have been showered with gifts,
you are the focus of attention;
obstacles your way removed;
the playing field equalized;
you are declared a winner by simply being here.

Everyone gets a medal.
Two plus two equals orange
and that is okay.
Truth is relative
you make it go your way.

Correcting misspellings is racist
Illegal is illegal and contemptible, not the act, the word.
You did not lie, you "misspoke".
You did something terrible but you  cried in public, so everything is forgiven.
It all depends on the meaning of the word I. I, me, myself. Not you.

It's all about you;
your feelings
your thoughts,
your needs;
you are oblivious to the world around you.

You
and your Facebook whines;
your Twitter and tweets,
your Instagram selfies
in the toilet.

Poor you! You were taught to be a victim.
Life is not fair.
You feel entitled because of history
never mind that that you are surrounded by those who struggle
because of the present.

To you
there are no norms.
Everything is the same and equal, if not you will make it equal.
There are no morals, no wrongs, no impropriety;
everything is acceptable and relative,

If only it meets your criteria,
your idea,
your want,
your need,
your desire.

You wonder why it is not going your way,
you are very angry and it is someone's fault.
So you lie, riot, shoot the police, kill innocent strangers or your classmates.
You axe guards, blowup buildings or behead the person who worked with you.
At this point what does it matter?

It is always someone's fault, never yours.
You just wanted to live
your selfish life.
What was your name?
What did you do?

Very Bad Medicine

My MacBook Pro is being serviced. I have been without it since February 14th. Long story. Guess from which Mac I am publishing this post? Hahaha! This is the only free thing I get to do at Apple. For everything else, I have to pay. Whew. It is a blessing and a curse to be without your own computer. Sorry, they have a fancy track pad, I do not know how to manipulate it to align this paragraph. If you see any typographical error just let me know and I will correct it when I have my book back. Have a great day!

Killing For Longevity
Pen and Ink on 14"x17" on Paris Paper

This image may be confusing to those who may not be aware that in rescuing rhinos from poachers, they are sometimes transported by helicopters in such manner. Cranes are a symbol of longevity in China, Vietnam, Japan and Korea. Turtles are also symbols of longevity, especially in Thailand. Incidentally, the firefly is a symbol of impermanence.

Cranes, as a symbol of longevity is hypocritical and meaningless at best if the the people of those cultures behave like ravenous wolves in their quest for longevity and economic profit; pillaging the earth and driving animals to extinction because of their horns, scales or tusks.  Such behavior is against the presets of life and human decency.

I know I have not posted Number 3 yet. :)

Ignorance, Greed, Hypocrisy and the Irony of Longevity

Ignorance, Greed, Hypocrisy and The Irony of Longevity. Pen and Ink on 14"x17" Paris Paper.
Series: The Plight of the Rhino, Number 2

RHINOS HAVE NO VOICES

Wise Ones: So let us unite in our belief and pursuit of longevity. That which enables us to achieve such by ingesting powdered rhino horns. We shall consume vast amounts so that we may empower ourselves with the virtue. Yes, we shall hunt and kill, maim and torture the rhino in Africa, Java, Sumatra and Indonesia for we have already rendered it extinct in Vietnam. So what if the rhino becomes extinct? It is part of the cycle of life and we have the means to pay the ignorant hungry guardians of such beasts; to satiate our greed for longevity beyond and above all means.

Rhino horns grow back, don't they? They will grow back after we hack off their faces, just like humans when their faces and skulls are hacked and scalped."

What do you mean they don't grow back? You mean, they die?

Remember reading in history how the people burned women at the stake because they were accused of witchcraft? People were scared of the power of those women so they burned them alive. That lasted awhile. Who was it among the wise and brave ones who wanted to rid society of witches who said "You know, if we burned every witch, we might run out of women."

BECAUSE THEY ARE BEING SILENCED FOREVER!

The descendant of every man and woman who ingests rhino horn should wear these images of killed and maimed rhinos as their medallions. The hope for a renaissance lies in the strength and ability of humans to eradicate ignorance and superstition; to rise above greed and selfishness; that we lead a life cognizant of the welfare of every living matter. We must protect those whose welfare and well being have been entrusted to us in the circle of life. The idea of living well has nothing to do with being well off. Avoid buying products from nations and people who rape and pillage the earth. They may sell cheap stuff, that is because they have no regard for the production of merchandise, even their own people are abused through inhumane labor practices.

The Flight Of The Rhino

Lullaby Of The Rhino. Pen and ink on 14"x17" Paris paper.
Series: The Plight of the Rhino, Number 1

First in a series "The Flight Of The Rhino" - A personal project of pen and ink drawings depicting the plight of the rhino from poaching fueled by the insatiable and selfish demands of Chinese Traditional Medicine. Chinese Traditional Medicine is not medicine but mass murder, destruction and extinction of magnificent wild beasts of Africa and elsewhere around the world (pangolin, elk, shark, bear, lion, etc.). Chinese Traditional Medicine is not confined in China but spread throughout the world; Vietnam, The Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Europe, Australia, U.S.A and wherever there are ignorant human beings desperate for relief of their personal misery without regard for the environment and fate of species. Rhinos are killed by poachers for their horns, believed to be a miracle cure-all. Rhino horn is not medicine, it is made of keratin, the same material found in human toenails. Please share.

Please read Jane Goodall's report on China's pillaging of Africa's natural resources without regard for the environment: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2562001/China-pillaging-Africa-raw-materials-like-old-colonialists-says-chimp-expert-Jane-Goodall.html

Longevity and Impermanence of Society

The Crane, The Turtle, The Firefly and the Bee. Archival pen and ink on 9"x12" Bristol board. Double-click to enlarge.

This is my arabesque rendition of the crane, a symbol of longevity in China, Korea and Japan. The crane is the equivalent of 0ne thousand years, however, the turtle is the equivalent of ten thousand years. So, if a crane stands on top of the turtle that is even better, except for the turtle, perhaps. She looks better without the burden. The bee is a symbol of human society. Although the firefly is a symbol of light, it also stands for impermanence. I chose the stately Sarus Crane which breeds across southeastern Asia from India to the Philippines, in arabesque squiggles, of course..

I modeled my bee (above, can you see it?) from Arija's photograph. I also drew Bella Sinclair's ferns, the one found on her "Prehistoric" drawing. Many times, I incorporate someone I love, admire in my drawings. The Coccinella septempunctata is a remembrance of my Mother. There are also enneads in this drawing.

Oh, I almost forgot. You know, one of the pen brands I use for drawing is made by Sakura. I actually looked at the brand icon several times, which is a cherry blossom, while I was drawing the flowers.
