Anomie

Anomie
Pigment ink and graphite pencil on 11"x14" Bristol Board.

Here’s a word for you: Anomie or Anomy - social instability and alienation caused by the erosion of norms and values. Just think about that.

I think I finished the drawing. This was a pleasant experience despite the fact that what I portrayed may stir some painful and negative emotions. Let me let you in on a secret. When I draw some things or paint some things that stir unpleasant sensations I have learned to use a crutch – my dearest Bella Sinclair's beloved pachyderms. I found out that Bella is not the only one who loves elephants – my dearest Arija and my dearest Deborah do too. Imagine those three wonderful women. What else can I ask? That perhaps all of my dearest friends love elephants. They are beautiful creatures - intelligent, fiercely loyal, protective, strong, and altruistic.

Ah! Wait! Wait! My dearest lovely sisterfriend Manon Doyle loves elephants and guess who else loves elephants? My beloved sisters! Yes! All of them but most especially my sister Leah, the smartest, brightest, kindest and gentlest of all.

This drawing, I have my own interpretation. You may have your own but please let me share this with you - sometimes we lose sight and get thrown off our core. We tend to dig deeper and push further, perhaps in the hope of tackling the issue, reclaiming our balance and stabilizing ourselves. I have learned it’s not always the best thing to do. Sometimes it is best to step away, walk away, and get detached. Step back farther, farther, look in the horizon, you may find what you lost or what you are searching. Calmly, quietly it’s there, peacefully waiting…

I have to laugh. In our multilingual home it was a common word -we could only speak French with one of our Grandmothers- and she used it quite often when we required permission to be late, or do something out of the normal rules for the household.

While I use the word anomaly quite often myself, I have not heard anomie since I left home. And what a riot that it should be today and from you. Love from here, cherie.

Let me exhale.......aaaaaaaaahhh. Ces, dearest. This is a masterpiece. I love your interpretation. Heaven and hell. Anomie and beautiful rebirth. What an incredible, incredible drawing. Oh my goodness. Can you see? Somewhere in the future, professors will be discussing your drawing and paintings and their meanings with young, eager art students. You are one of the world's best undiscovered secrets.

Do you know what other animal I have a deep respect for? Octopi. How incredibly intelligent they are. One species of octopus was recently discovered to use tools!

My pleasure mon amie! Ah yes, I remember we used anomaly a lot then too and now we accept everything as normal and sometimes quite ironic, the normal ones have become the abnormal in this dysfunctional world. Well, I am a fool if I am to be fooled twice.

My dearest Bella, leave it to you to find an octopus washing dishes under the sea! Hahaha. I love the incredible array of the varried knowledge that you possess. Never a dull moment! Yes, I love the baby version of the octopus, the squid. I love calamari and I love eating the squid's "tinta" ink, a certain Filipino dish where the ink is used. I always loved flashing my teeth after eating black ink. Ooops, pardon the carnivore that I am. Rest assured, I won't eat your beloved elephants.

I have so many things to say, so I must start and then write more. First, I am SOOOOO glad you put a watermark on it. WHEW. NO THIEVES. Second, LOVE the header. I can't have a favorite of the elephant series, but that could be the one. **whispers Merry Christmas** Deb

I am not finished looking. I got distracted with Bella's Octopi. I do love what Bella said about professors discussing your work in the future. You ARE one of the world's best undiscovered treasures. Now I have a STAT. Poo. I shall return. **kisskis** Deb

Deborah my dearest Deborah! Oh you spoil me. Thank you. No one has ever given me oak seedlings before. They came in two beautiful little boxes and I thought they were brownies, I was going to eat them! I need to study the Canyon Oak - impressive trees!

Ah my dearest Marie, thank you. Yes, each person is a story.

Jenea, hello again. How are you? Thank you very much.

Inday, Does it look like Dali's? It does not look like Time, although I love that painting of his. I was thinking of Bosch!

Hello Linda, thank you very much.

Ah Ribbon, thank you very much. Merry Christmas to you too.

Manon! Do you know how much that makes me happy? I had to modify my post!

Ces - what a talent you are!!! I love elephants, I always have. One of my first and most beloved toys was a little stuffed grey elephant. And your drawing is beyond amazing. I wish I could see your work in person. You need to have a showing at a gallery where we can come and ooh and ahh in person. "Merry Christmas, Ces," Pam whispers. :)

Hello Tattytiara, yes, we are both blessed!

Hello India, oh yes, and I can hear Pooh's raspy voice and Piglet's as they prepare to trap one! I don't think they were ever successful in trapping one! Hahah!

You know Ces, the more I look at this the more I practically fall into it.

It is a scary place where brave people go.

Ces, I love your Christmas story, and hearing you tell it and on December 1st the present to your Mom. Did you carry that tradition with your kids. I think it is beautiful.

I love you so much.

Ces..... did you have a pot of coffee this morning? LOL! I agree with your assessment on blogging and the same can be said of other social networks. We just have to be careful. I usually have a sense about things but sometimes you don't know who'll try and invade your space with bad intentions. I think that the majority of people are wonderful!
I also have something coming your way in the new year!!
Yes.... my parents are here.... check out their pics on my FB page..... it's going to be a long month...lol

Marion said...

Ces, I've read your comments for a long time at Renee's blog, but this is my first visit to yours. I love your art. At first glance of this one I thought of Hieronymus Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights". But your work is not nearly that scary! LOL! Thanks for the new word. I collect words and I'm going to add this one to my box. Blessings!

Deborah said...

OMGosh why had I not noticed the feet on the trees??? And the header with the rocks with the elephants and the hidden...you know how those hypnotize me and I have work to do Ces! Again, I completely agree with Bella's first comment. **blows merry kisses** Deb

Deborah said...

Ces, you are so awesome! I just got back from mailing your wee package to you and read your comment. I love it. I just heard on the radio that KLUV has a program for military families left at home during deployment...the station will mail the gifts directly to the families. **blows merry kisses** Army Mom Elfin Deb

i looked at the picture again today. is that lady on the left handside getting a gastrostomy feeding? the lady with golf club is funny. i feel it's tiger climbing the tree with an arrow on his --s running away from his wife.

Deborah said...

I read Bella's latest comment and was wondering the same thing about the lady in the house...I can only hope that it Tiger with the arrow up his butt!!

Oh, Ces, that is just too awful about the soldier. Very very sad. I do not think that I have thanked God enough for Ryan's safe deployment. **kisskiss** Deb

Ces..wow. I'm back from a long holiday and I see so many new posts, a new blog format, and this incredible illustration (among many..those elephants! Fantastic!). I can't even believe how creative you are..and you are one quick woman! I must say, you have quite a gift and I am so glad that I am able to visit your world every now and again. Hope you get that space heater for Christmas, too!! : )

Ces Adorio said...

Hello Shirley, welcome back! Thanks for stopping by. Ha! We are not allowed to have heaters at work but those with window offices do anyway. You think there will be a thunderstorm brewing in the hall with the cold offices converging in the halls with the hot offices.

Bjornik said...

Hi tita Ces! Everything's okay here though I'm a bit busy packing my things since I'm going back home for good after Christmas.:)

How about you and the family? I hope you'll get a time off with your drawings during the holidays and rest those busy hands.;)

By the way, I like what you drew in here. Especially the stripped lady with her bush left untouched.haha Is that Maria Makiling?:) Oooohhh, and there's lechon too!hahaha Can you send it to me before Jack totally chops off the trunk with that ax, we'd love to have that for noche buena!:)

Where are you my little Cessaliciuos? I have moved into the house atop the highest mountain where the elephants are heading. It cost me an arm and a leg, but the view is well worth the price.

Packaging manager for The Manon??? How did you get that job??? Busy day here too...SPC Ryan arrives in Phoenix @ 5:10 TODAY!!! yip yip yippeeeee. ♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Deb

Deborah said...

Well NOW you tell me after the wee little people chopped off my arm and leg for the house on the hill! Regarding Paul: Yes, I have had my suspicious about his sexual identity also...something about his eyes and those cheeks...teehee

Deborah said...

No, the evil little people only cut off one arm and one leg on opposite sides so I could hobble up the mountain to my new home...not sure what they did with the extremities though...I don't find them in the drawing.

I can get NOTHING done here, having to keep an eye on Paul and his suitor...Improper usage of the word...what is the feminine word for suitor...trollop?

Renee said...

I see them Ces and they are beautiful.

Ces Adorio said...

Oh Bjornik, Maria Makiling! You just gave me an idea! I am sure you will be having lechon sometime this Christmas season! Have a safe trip back home. I will be closer to you now when I go home Although I don't think there are direct flights from my place to yours.

Thank you Eric.

Hi Deborah!

What do you see Renee?

Dear Ces, just once, I'd love to have a seat in your brain as you draw these masterpieces! I am curious - do you have it all worked out as you start or do you start somewhere and then it all flows from there? You are amazing!
And...who wouldn't love elephants?! They are amazing animals - and I LOVE the little parade in your drawing.
Ok...half and hour later...I've gotten lost in your drawing again...the level of detail is incredible! I agree with Bella - some day your art will be discussed by professors and students everywhere! (And I'm intrigued by the octopus - off to check that out now!) Love, Silke

Silke Powers said...

I just watched the octopus video and couldn't believe it! WOW - thanks, Bella!

Ces Adorio said...

Silke dearest thank you. I wanted to draw an egg for IF's "Hatch" theme and the rest I just make up. Thank you. You are much too kind. Bella is biased, very biased.

Well Ces, I got lost and now am found. I just really really really (3 reallys) like this. Like, nice, lovely. Well in the absecnce if a better grasp of my language I would like to say that admire this work. Particulary the activites you have chosen for the Boschian characters :)
