Amanita phalloides - Death Cap Mushroom

Amanita phalloides. Ink and colored pencil on 11"x14 Bristol board.

This drawing and my research on this mushroom was inspired by an entry on my daughter's journal when she was 10 years old. She used to write facts and info on the corners and sides of her journal pages. One day in the kitchen, she read one of her journals and it compelled me to know more about it.  See how our children inspire us? Do your children inspire you to study and learn more?

This is Amanita phalloides also known as the death cap. It is a deadly poisonous basidiomycete fungus, one of many in the genus Amanita. It causes major organ failures in hours and death in about 10 days. Read about A. phalloides here.

Ohmygoodness, Ces...are you ok? Are you still quite ill? I sure hope you're on the mend. I just read your previous post and hope that the fever and chills have passed swiftly!! Sending a big bowl o' chicken soup and a fluffed up pillow your way! Ahhhhh, these illustrations are gorgeous..as per usual from you, Ces. Deathcaps..yikes. I always hear of those horrible incidents but I've not ever seen a deathcap picture, or illustration, so thank you. It's awesome that your children inspire you..mine do the same for me. Today we (my littlest and I) just completed a huge project and it's been submitted for a grant..wish us luck! My first picture-book dummy..we shall see! Sending you well wishes and hugs! Tsup!

Wow, so much attention went into this, as always in your work. It's weird, but on my screen your jpeg thumbnail has some jpeg distortion, but when I open it, it's normal. Weird, I suppose. I hope you're feeling better :)

My children and grandchildren inspire me every day. It is amazing what we can learn from them. I am so glad you are creating more and more beautiful pictures.
My health has improved markedly since I have been my own master. My legs have healed and breaking my glasses was one of those 'guardian angel' acts. I think they were too strong and made my eyes lazy.
Happy Easter to you and your family.

What you were sick? I'm so sorry to hear that. I must have missed your last post or didn't read it through. I hope you are better now. I'm loving the mushrooms that you've been doing lately and just the bits of color is very nice. Sending you hugs and get well wishes :)

I come bearing Robitussin and cream of mushroom soup. Would you like some? Open wide. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Name notwithstanding, I should love to picnic under your fungi. Death sometimes wears a little ballerina skirt, I see.

Flu be gone!

I KNOW I commented here, but it gone...
Did you think I was being rude?
Not Knowingly--EVER!

Anyway, I comment now, to say,
YOU are inspired by everything/anything
in the Universe.

Sometimes before I pull out a bothersome weed,
I look closely and marvel at its creation,
its consistent perseverance, growing against
all our warring with liquids that kill it.

Hey I hear that Mushroom Soup will kill ANY flu or cold...
BYE

My kids definitely inspire me. I know I'm on the right course when they laugh or show interest. If they look at me puzzled it's back to the drawing board.

These mushroom pictures are brilliant (posted here and previously). I love the texture of this one.
