European Destroying Angel

No more eggs.
I am tired of drawing eggs.
No more mushrooms either.
Oh wait, I still like mushrooms.

Amanita virosa

Destroying Angel is a name given to three species of mushrooms of the genus Amanita, namely Amanita bisporigera, Amanita virosa and Amanaita verna. These mushrooms are white and I find them beautiful. However, it is a challenge to draw white mushroom on white Bristol Board. I tried. This is Amanita virosa, otherwise known as the European Destroying Angel. It is a deadly poisonous basidiomycete fungus and is associated with many coniferous (pine) and  deciduous trees such as oak. The immature specimen resemble many edible varieties increasing the risk of accidental poisoning. Amanita virosa is one of the most poisonous of all known poisonous mushrooms; its principal toxin α-amanitin damages the liver and kidneys, often fatally. There are only a few known antidotes, one of which is a compound derived from milk thistle.

Hey, I really like this mushroom piece, Ces. It reminds me of Aubrey Beardsley in such a good way with the concentrated areas of texture and negative space, but it is completely in your style and personality. And your new banner is epic!!

Beardsley! Thank you. Oh my. I am not worthy to clean his brushes and pens. I always thought his life was sadly cut short at the age of 26. He is one of my idols. These mushrooms are so white that I had to think of how to portray it. I did some pointillism for the mushrooms and squiggled the outlines.

Great way to overcome the white-on-white problem! I also find mushrooms to be fascinating. :)

Yeah, mushrooms are pretty cool, and this one has a nice design, but I was really enjoying that Rhino series; I can sort them out easier in my head I think, not as many complicated species names to pronounce, as in vegetation. Guess I'm a stick-and-rudder kind of guy, not too advanced. :(

Oh good . . . mushrooms made the cut.
And poisonous ones to boot.
Yay.
(And I love the new drawing technique.)
