...Yes!!! to whatever I am referring, it is true! There should be something that alludes to high mountains too, but there is no mountain on this drawing. Also, something about the river... :)
I do not think I am happy about this drawing. As you may have noticed, I have been using a bit of colored pigment ink lately. I am trying to be subtle, using color as a highlight. Quite frankly, to me, unless it is red for blood, putting color on my black pen and ink drawing makes it look kitschy and cheap. So I think I managed to ruin this drawing quite nicely!
Long live black and white!

There is a timeless quality to black and white. I often do multiple versions myself struggling between my love of black/white and color, so I absolutely get where you are coming from. Beautiful work.
The colors in this work are absolutely beautiful, in my opinion. The scene feels like it has more depth than in the first photo. I'm particularly fond of blues and greens. But you make magic with black and white anyway. I feel goosebumps every time I look at your work.
I don't think you ruined it at all, dearest Ces! I love the feel of the scene with your rich colors. Not kitschy at all. Your black and white is classic and stunning..but I am enjoying the color too as I feel "japanese woodblock" in this piece. It's gorgeous! I am so sorry for my delay in reply..January has swept in and I am still awhirl. I understand what you're saying about color. Sometimes that happens! But it most certainly did not happen in your image above. In this case, though the black and white is quite lovely, I prefer the color version. You picked the right blues and greens, didn't overdo it... it's just right.
I always love your black & whites, but I think you have a very delicate hand with color too. I certainly don't think you ruined this one!
Working with colored pens does create some limitations though, as there is such a limited range in most cases. You might try hand-coloring with colored pencil or watercolor, or even mixing your own inks & using a crowquill!
I think it is always good to experiment, even if one isn't always happy with the results. Keeps life interesting! :-)
