The Young Grandewitch of Xystoi

In life there may be a loss from which one moves on, but does not recover. The loss is never replaced.

The Young Grandewitch Of Xystoi. Micro pigment and India ink on 14"x17" Bristol Board. Posted earlier on Facebook

About this drawing: I finally finished it. It was fun illustrating this piece, although I must admit it started getting tedious and laborious in the end. There are over one thousand distinct leaves on the main tree and each leaf has a spine and ribs. There are also caterpillars on some leaves. It took 12 pens with different nibs ranging from 0.20mm nib micro pigment or India ink pens and brushes. Depending on the viewer's angle, trees in the background appear into view. When I draw I prefer new pens. There is a certain sensation when a new nib scratches the surface that sends vibrations to my wrist. I do not like to use a lot of pressure. A new pen is gentler on the wrist, therefore, I do not wait for the pen to run out of ink. In the past I only used 0.20mm nibs but I am almost out of them. I am clinging to my last two pens. I use them for drawing facial features. I should get new ones I suppose. This is the juvenile Grandewitch of Xystoi. I have rendered her in oil on canvas before. My signature is always a part of the drawing. It is on the mandolin, on a tree branch and on the kite caught among the branches.

I loved this on facebook and I love it here too. I really want an outfit like hers. Your drawings have movement and they always have a deep story to tell. Beautiful work my sister in nursing.

**sigh** So lovely. Something about the moon in this one calls to me. You are certain most detail oriented. Every day my eyes rest upon my elephant and think of you. Speaking of witches, where is out little Mita???

Gosh, Ces..this has to be one of my ABSOLUTE favorites of yours. I love the serenity of feeling that it gives me and the gorgeous contrast of that moonlit sky to your wonderful beauty and mighty tree. Your work never fails to intrigue and delight me. The owl is lovely! And I spy that lizard..your details are awesome!

Beautiful! I just love that little owl silhouetted against the moon. And the other tiny white bird, and of course the peacock is gorgeous. Love the young Grandewitch's posture and her scarf. And the painting of her is a beauty too! I must admit I am hard on my teeny nibs and end up destroying my Copic 0.03 pens with some frequency (followed by moderate cursing, tossing in the trash, and vowing to try to stop doing that!) :)
