Non sequitor - Along The Trails, My Sky and Oak

Be careful when clicking to blow up anything:

Ah, let me derail your thoughts from the Tears Series for a moment as I post previous drawings illustrating my interpretation of Illustration Friday's "Trail" topic. It's a good diversion for me as I draw these fabulous women and force a tear out their beautiful eyes.

From The Illustrated Abecedarian Series: G - Garbriela and Ghalan on the trail (grove) of the gentle giant (above). and H (below) - A happy ending for the hound and the hapless heir. These are 9"x12" pen and ink drawings on Bristol board.

On the trail of the storm, not the same storm that fried the desktop but the one outside my office window yesterday. I love it when my fellow employees alert me and ask : "Did you see the sky?" They know I love clouds and think of me when they see interesting cloud formations.

Last Christmas, my beloved sisterfriend Deborah sent me two acorn seedlings. I let them stay in their beautiful nursery boxes for months and finally transplanted them last week. These are the Quercus chrysoplepsis, massive oak trees. They will stay in the pots for a while, perhaps transplant them to bigger pots as I look for a canyon because, after all, they are also called Canyon oak.

THANK YOU!!!
THANK YOU!!!

To all my friends who made my birthday a very special day in the blogs:
Bella Sinclair, Shirley Ng Benitez, Deborah,
Thank you for the special birthday posts and drawings

This is lovely Ces. I really love the illustrations that Shirley and Bella did for your birthday too. I hope it was a happy one.

I'm so glad you took photos of the oaks from Deb---I love seeing the different leaves. (the shapes, the colors...amazing)
I must get the camera and take a pic of that tiny, tiny one trying to survive in my jungle/yard. Maybe I should put it on a pot.....

OMGoodness, so much in one post!
**head spins and pops off** LOVE LOVE LOVE your new drawings! The roots are fabulous. I am ever so excited about the oak weelings! You have very well to keep them alive, very well indeed. Maybe you should bring them back to Arizona and plant them at Oak Creek Canyon! We could make a day trip. I must return in the morning to look at the Trails again...we are leaving early for the Diamondbacks game. I do not like baseball but Alice is coming and I have been promised dinner and beverages! **kisskiss** Deb

Oh, I love your trails. One day, I will shrink myself (or blow up your drawings until they are a mile wide) and follow the trail of a penline as it squiggles out leaves and bark and stone. And I'm so relieved to see the little heir making it to safety! He has a very loyal bodyguard, too.

OMG, the oaks! WOW, they looks so wonderful and healthy! What fine, fine specimens they are.

A beautiful diversion - from the tears to trails! Your illustrations always take me away into beautiful and magical landscapes.
boy do I love dramatic clouds, too. All we've been having around here lately is haze and heat, with threats that clouds will arrive - I'm hoping they will come soon and take the near 90's with them!! Can I be whining about summer already. ummm, yes :)

Gorgeous oaks - how very cool that you are nursing them from seedlings (or should I say nutlings?) on! Love them!!

I have roots like your trees...strong, thick roots, roots that can survive the worst drought. I just realized that is something I like about myself! You have good roots too...international roots, long roots connecting time and space. Some of your roots have grown into my heart. It is very important that tree roots do not gather about themselves...they must spread. You spread love very well.
Oh how I adore you. ♥♥♥ Deb

OOOOOoooooooo now you have made me feel as if I made the Pom-Pom team NOT as the alternate, but as the FIRST CHOICE! God never loved me so greatly before, till he brought thee to me and said Behold your sisterfriend. That is a paraphrase of a quote and I do not know the author. You make me believe in dreams.

I'm glad you are revisiting your trails Ces and imagine one day those little seedlings will stand tall near trails of their own*!*

"The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see Nature all ridicule and deformity, and some scarce see Nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, Nature is Imagination itself."

k.h., thank you. I had a lovely day spent at work and then getting much needed rest by taking a nap while The Viking took care of teens and dinner.

Anne, I wish I took photos of the acorns when the roots were sprouting. I forgot where I placed the boxes and for sure I thought they may have not survived but these ones are hardy and thank goodness, they looked happy when I transplanted them.

Oh Deborah, I am so worried how my blog affects you. All those things happening sound so painful!!! Hahahaha! The transplanting idea is marvelous! That would be awesome. We can plant the oaks, need to find out how I can whisk little tree saplings through homeland security...You are the Star Cheerleader and the Top Pom Pom Girl for me anytime!

OOOOOOOOOHHHHH FROGGIE! I love how you say "baby oak tree". Hello doll. How are you? Gotta see your fox...

Thank you Marie. I hope you are doing well. The gall of that bladder!

Oh Arija, that sounds like a divine thing to do! YES! I look at clouds over the oak trees from the 8th floor windows. My office overlooks the live oak dotted parking lot!

Bella, Bella!!! A shrunken Little Bella. May I put you in my shirt pocket? Ooooh! Can you imagine? Maybe I will do the same and then get lost in your drawings but do you think Totoro may be scary for a Tiny Ces?

Thank you Alina.

Karin, you and I. I whine about the summer. It is so vicious down here that I hibernate during the summer in air-conditioning. I hope I will find a place to transplant them. Deborah's idea sounds wonderful.

Pen and Ink
Skies and Oaks
and Birthdays
Oh my!
I love all these things in common.

Lori, I love oak. So beautiful in so many aspects. Physically, metaphorically. For 12 months I busied myself with oak illustrations in pen and ink from trees, to trunks, acorns and leaves. But I love trees. I still become teary eyed with Joyce Kilmer's poem The Tree. The first ever poem I memorized in first grade. Growing up in the city, we hardly had trees in our area so we loved staying at school where we climbed the trees. The avenue where we lived was lined with giant acacia trees but very difficult to climb because of the massive trunks and the limbs are not hardy. When we moved to the suburbs, my Mother filled the land with trees and I felt so rich!

Hello Annie. I hope so!

Thank you Anne. I did not see the links but I deleted it.

Happy belated dear lady! I wish you a year full of days that feel wonderful to you! That first photo reminds me of a macro photo, tiny hairs, enlarged big, skin cells swollen with life.... sorry, the photographer in me.

Caroline said...

Fab trails - the top one makes me want to follow! Wow, Ces, what a sky on your new header too! The little oaks preparing themselves for their big future remind me of my own little orchids waiting for up to 10 years before they bloom!

Ces Adorio said...

Oh no, thank you Tammie. Of course! You are a great photographer too. I need real macro lenses!

caroline, 10 years, oh my goodness, but I do know about plants like those. We had a plant that bloomed only once a year at midnight - Dama de noche.

Beautiful and magnificent is all I can say. Hey did you hear, Dr. Bella is giving me a Brazilian but lift??? She's really good at it. Hear she even serves a great Martini to knock you out with while she works on you! I'll let you know how it turns out!

Oh Vee! Uh oh - You trust Bella to do the butt lift procedure? And BTW, what does she mean my hand will be all over yours? I am not a butt person. Actually I need a butt lift too. Have been sitting on it for hours drawing that I think it has become part if the chair! I need a butt extraction!
