A Perennial Sisterfriendship Of Virtue

Genuine. 18"x24" Oil on canvas.

...a genuine friend is someone who loves or likes another person for the sake of that other person.

Gentle, Kind, Loving, Fun Words With friends: A friendship of virtue is rare. Lucky and blessed are they who have it. Nothing evinces a friendship of virtue more than the one I hold dear to my heart, my perennial friendship with my sisterfriend, Bella Sinclair.

I painted this without a palette. I dipped the brushes directly into the paint tubes or squirted the paints directly on the canvas where I mixed them with my brushes. The brush strokes are clearly visible, . I wanted every brush movement to record my joy and happiness when I painted this. At times I was actually giggling.

In my painting of Scarlet (left) she is shown holding a book. It is one of my favorite books, a gold edged and trimmed leather bound edition of Aristotle's Ethics. The chapter on Friendship is my favorite. It is where I first read the Friendship of Virtue, one that my mother lectured me about when I was growing up. For years I have worked for that type of friendship... I am blessed. Here is an analysis of Aristotle's book, Ethics. it's actually better if you just read the book. I think every home library should have it.

A Perennial Friend of Virtue

Present at all seasons of the year
Persisting for several years
Persistent and enduring
Continuing without interruption
Regularly repeated and renewed

I have Aristotle's Ethics as an audio book, on several cassette tapes. I got them for my son long ago, when I was homeschooling him, but I never listened to them myself. Now I want to listen to the tapes, but I no longer have an audio cassette player! (guess I'll have to get it in regular book form) Thanks for the stimulation. : )

That is an 8 point word, but a priceless gesture. I love your painting! Aristotle should be envious at how succinctly and effectively you have put his words onto a single canvas. He is an excellent mistutor who would whomp that lesson about friendship and equity onto his tiro like a flood upon a desert.

My my my, I love the texture of the paint on the walls. It's almost like wood grain.

TSUP!!!

What a blessing for me to be in a place to witness the growth of a friendship (you and Bella!) of such permanence, that three years is forever, as in each moment can be discovered eternity. The 'like' and 'love' of a friend-in-virtue helps make eternity more worthily lived.

Growth stages of a work of art (I was given the honor to view it in (email) adolescent stage) are not seen by many--maybe only family.

And this guy Aristotle: Imagine that a third of all he wrote is still intact after more than 2,300 years. I took a course in Aristotelian Logic. Now I'm getting his ethics.

PEACE, Peeps!

NOTE TO BELLA: Could not find a comment area on your latest post. You and Ces are truly two of God's favorites!

I am putting those books on my to-do list, Ces. Aristotle, Plato. Thank you for helping to shine a light on a new path I must take. : ) And good that you reread it each year - my goodness, I thought of you this morning and wondered, "how does Ces do all that she does?!" - and then I went back to sleep. He he! I am so astounded by your breadth of knowledge..you are remarkable, you know that?!

Regarding the Suzuki method, my daughter's director is so kind..she recently has been taking workshops at Juilliard to replenish her teaching methods and fill her up again..I think it's awesome..she comes back so energized and ready to tackle all of the kids she teaches (which is near 100 or so). WOW, your fellow's son was interviewed huh? I'm sure the group is stellar! Ours is a bit down to earth - they even play some fiddlin' songs. : ) Have a super week, Ces!

Hellllo ces :) Are you are being quite, good on you! More time for breathing and making paintings and getting an empty space in your head... my brain is shrinking yes I can feel it so I know what it is like to have a nice empty space in the head - but it does get cold in winter though, so sometimes I fill it with cotton wool (grey)

ah you are the most consistently wonderful artist I know. Yes I know you are not an artist, but artists is in the mind of the beholder, not the beholden,! So there nanananana :)

I hope you are well. It's cold here and it is raining and I know you wanted to know that.

Im off to the funny farm where life is good and full of charm - stay well :)

oh my magic word is 'commi' -must stand for communits not commic :)

PS Bella the answer is "you think one of them would have seen it!"

Hey Ces! True friends are rare. You are truly blessed. I am glad that I can experience/witness such a deep friendship, even if it is through a computer screen. I can feel the love and joy in this piece. I think that is why it is one of my favorite things that you have done. You are a true inspiration Ces, in art and in life.
