The Moon On A Midsummer Night

Update: 6/25/2011 11:58 AM. Today is Saturday!!! I am going to start a new 30"x40" oil painting, that is, if I can get up from this bed. It feels so good to sleep in!!! I have not had a cup of coffee since April 10th, 2011. Can you believe that??? This update is brought to you by the my Fiesta and Spode dishes :)

I thought of just submitting the previous post of my latest painting for this week's Illustration Friday, but an idea came to mind. Why not gather every thing I have drawn or painted with the moon on a midsummer night? But of course!

Left, The stoic full moon luring the fish to the surface before the goddess Lindol (Earthquake) strikes; 9"x12" Bristol Board. Right, the weeping moon with the beautiful Lahksmita Indira fishing with a narwhal; 9"x12" Bristol Board.

The full moon at the end of spring, drawn in pen and ink on 9"x12" Bristol Boards, 2008 and the Quarter Moon with the First Epsilon's dream catcher, painted in midsummer, 2007, oil on canvas

The Vaticinating Moon photographed on 2011 above and drawn in pen and ink below on 2007.

Not much above has changed, has it? Perhaps a little softer around the edges. The vegetation looks the same. Left, 1985, 36 inches x 48 inches, oil on canvas. Right, 2011, 30 inches x 40 inches, oil on canvas.

The Vaticinating moon, again, above, 30"x40" oil on canvas and
Arabesque in the moonlight below; 9"x12" Bristol Board.

I love my family.
I love my friends.
I love Daisy and Snowflake.
Ugh, we have another stray puppy...
His name is Wheezy. He has knife cut marks on his thigh, abdomen and ears.
Someone put him on top of a fire ant mound and he was covered with ant bites when he made his way to our front gate.
I have given him a bath twice already so I can hug him.
Ugh. We don't need another puppy...

  4. I see the moon and the moon sees me.
God bless the moon and God bless thee.

Aaah, the allure of a beautiful moon. You know your pen and ink drawing of the vaticinating moon? Kind of looks like the tree is cradling the moon in the palm of its hand, no? :)

OOOooooo poor poor Wheezy! But very blessed Wheezy to have been taken into your loving arms. I know how he feels...I have been loved by you. I've decorated my walls with your love. And my heart. ♥♥♥ Deb

  6. Haha Ces, you know I came to comment, but no comment that I could make would do justice to this work you do, so I did not comment, but I felt guilty so now I do, butstill it is not justice

  8. using words to speak of imagery is like using a dictionary as a hat :)

kind of works, but falls off a lot

  9. If I take off my hat (dictionary) all the words will fall out--they always do--grin!

Your brain must be crowded with marvelous thoughts...could only grow out of a marvelous Peep.

Sure, Ces, I viewed every painting and drawing here, my head is bright with the moonlight.

But when my body felt flamed with warmth, was with your few ending words: hugging the rescue dog, after two baths!
And your compassion for all life.

    I am impressed--well, thrilled!
    TSUP!

So glad you like the finished version of 'Water Sprite' as I am going to send you a copy! The original is 12x24...is that ok or would you like it smaller?

  13. And I know poor wheezy may add to your already intimidating list of people and animals to care for, but he obviously came to you for a reason and what a fortunate puppy he is too! Hugs him for me please.

  14. Julia,

Are you kidding? Anything! I would be delighted. Oooooohh, my jaw is tingly from excitement. Hahahah! I meant to paint today but I found out that I am on call. Ugh! So here I am in my pajamas in the kitchen stuck to my computer and pager. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I have not checked your weather yet.

I kicked Wheezy out even though I gave him a bath this morning because he had an accident. So he is in the carport. I had to wash his kennel and sheets! Ugh!

  15. Elizabeth,
Hello and thank you very much for stopping by.

    Debbie,
    Thank you very much.

    Rick,
I think so too. You know, I did not even know I drew and painted a lot of moons. These are the only ones with the summer theme. I have some in winter and fall too!

    Hi Karen dear,
    Yes, I have been mooning a lot, haven't I? :)

    Dearest Bella,
Do you know, that vaticinating moon was drawn from a friend's photograph and that's what I thought too!

    Andrew!!!
So that's what I have been doing wrong! I also use the dictionary to prop me up higher when I sit on a chair. I know what you mean. Sometimes my words are too faint to describe some people's art.

Oh my goodness, you are so poetic. Did you pick up a brush yet? I think you should try it.

    Hi Tammie,
Aha! Our paths were crossing in cyberspace. Have a great day and enjoy your adventure!

  17. Ah, Ces, the big wonderful moon. Where would we be without it? You have done the moon justice in all of your beautiful drawings and paintings.
One day, somehow, I hope to adorn my walls with one of your large wonderful paintings. I might beg, or borrow. Stealing is out of the question. hahahaha
