Dear friends and visitors: I am not one to leave things unfinished but for the time being, I don't feel very sociable. My heart is heavy. I miss my sister very much. I miss everyone I love. You know how the saying goes; a melancholy sad soul is heavily loaded and in making friends with her, you end up bearing the other half. I do not want to be a burden to anyone. abaxial - situated away from the axis (abaxial surface of the leaf = underneath, beneath)

adaxial - situated on the side toward the stem or axis (adaxial surface of the leaf = above)

cordate - heart shaped with the attachment at the notched end

dentate - toothed margins or tooth-like projections

crenate - having the margins notched or scalloped to form rounded teeth

glaucous - covered with whitish plus (example: plum)

glabrous - surface devoid of hair or pubescence

stellate - arranged or shaped like a star, radiating from the center

polymorphous - passing through or having various forms or stages

intercalary - interpolated or interposed

petiole - the stalk by which the leaf is attached to the stem

mucronate - having an abrupt projected point

ovoid - egg shaped

peduncle - the stalk bearing the acorn

hemispheric - having the form of a hemisphere

subconical - resembling or pertaining to a cone

lanceolate - shaped like the head of a lance

appressed - pressed closely together

tomentose - closely covered with down or matted hair

trichomes - hairlike or bristle like growth from epidermis of plant

elliptical - having the form of an ellipse

sessile - attached by the base, or without any distinct projecting support

oboval, obovate - inversely ovate; ovate with the narrow end at the base.

awn - 1.a bristlelike appendage of a plant, especially on the glumesof grasses. 2.such appendages collectively, as those forming the beard ofwheat, barley, etc. 3.any similar bristle.

farinose - 1.yielding farina. 2.resembling farina; farinaceous. 3.covered with a mealy powder.

prostrate - lying flat or at full length, as on the ground. Growing flat along the ground. Creeping jenny, pennyroyal, and many species of ivy have a prostrate growth habit.

acuminate - pointed; tapering to a point.

caudate - having a tail or taillike appendage.

velutinous - having a soft, velvety surface, as certain plants.

stylopodium - a swelling at the base of the style in umbelliferous plants

umbelliferous - relating to, or belonging to the Umbelliferae, a family of herbaceous plants and shrubs, typically having hollow stems,divided or compound leaves, and flowers in umbels: includes fennel, dill, parsley, carrot, celery, and parsnip

style - the stalk of a carpel, bearing the stigma

Tessa Edwards: "And guess what! I've ordered a sapling oak to plant in our new garden. It's an English Oak(Quercus robur), which is a wonderfully rugged and very handsome deciduous tree which provides a rich habitat for other plants and is a valuable source of food for wildlife. It's a large tree with 'a broad head of spectacularly spreading branches filled with small clusters of catkins and flower spikes each spring' - followed by masses of acorns in lovely autumn tints of bright yellow and russet brown. I'm going to call it 'Queen Ces'. Oh yes I am! It will be my very own Magic Faraway Tree." Thank you, Tessa. Tsup! Tsup!!
