6. The Young Disaster Series - Blistering Blustery Buhawi

Young Buhawi. Archival pen and ink on 12"x9" Bristol Board

Blistering Blustery Buhawi
stirring the sea
creating enneads
and stranding billions of fish.

Her sisters:

In Mathematics an ennead is a prime number, the sum of 8 and 1. Greek ennead-, enneas, from ennea nine.

An Ennead for E
A Special Tribute to Nine

Paul Erdos, the mathematician who coined the term "Epsilon" (vanishingly small quantities) for children identified this characteristic for the number 9:

The number 9 when multiplied by any number from 1 to 10 would result in a number with a sum total of 9.

1x9 = 9
2x9 = 18 (1+8=9)
3x9 = 27 (2+7=9)
4x9 = 36 (3+6=9)
5x9 = 45 (4+5=9)
6x9 = 54 (5+4=9)
7x9 = 63 (6+3=9)
8x9 = 72 (7+2=9)
9x9 = 81 (8+1=9)
10x9 = 90 (9+0=9)

I have a confession to make. This drawing is not yet finished. I still need to draw scales on the fish but I am in a rush and chasing a very important birthday of a very special girl who will soon be nine. No doubt this is an unlikely tribute but Buhawi stirred the sea and resulted in a couple of sea creature enneads and the birds on her hair. My 9 year old friend will be aghast at Buhawi's nakedness. Happy Birthday sweet sweet E! May you have a super duper day! TSUP!!!

HAPPY birthday to the nine-year-old. Will she be "dressed-to-the-nines"?

Unlike, of course, Buhawi!--grin!
PEACE! And good night!

Wouhaou!!!

Good God. This is probably one of the best drawings I've seen from you, Ces. It's absolutely incredible.

I love every little detail you put in... the lines in the hair, the little black birds...everything! And you say it isn't done??!

Well, I hope you're having great days over there. :) oxx

Oh wowee! This is fantastic! I can hear the fish singing love songs to your selkie, she is so lovely!

Oh yes! And I am still awaiting your mailing address so I can send you cute kitty pictures! ;)

This is great. I love the birds in her hair.

If you haven't started already, I would leave those fish alone. They look so stunning and shimmery being plain against all the detail.

How long does one of these things take. You must have the patience and fortitude of a saint to be able to etch in all those details.

Wow!

These are really great and with the things going on right now seem very timely. Good luck on the birthday.

Really gorgeous!!! I am loving this series - I can't believe how many pens you use on one piece...that's amazing. Love this whole composition, so much imagination and expertise in the execution! YOU ROCK!!!

Thanks so much for your comment on my latest piece
actually laughed out loud when I read it, you are so funny! I will have to let you know when the professional scan is done so you can really look at the details.

That is the one thing I miss about your work, I want to be able to hold it up to my nose and just gaze and gaze at the details and how you do such intricate work. Cause I just love it all!

Smiles and hugs
XO

Just kidding. I do not want to eat your wondrous creatures.

Hey Ces! I clicked on your blog about a half an hour ago! Your’s is the only blog that I have trouble getting past the header! I was so captivated by the hummingbirds that I didn’t want to go any further :o) That is absolutely gorgeous! Love your disaster series... and so timely. Beautiful work.... as usual! Hope you had a blast at the party! Great post! I’m a numbers guys.... the number 9 is very interesting. John Lennon said he liked the number nine too, so he looped the words “number nine” into the song Revolution. Leaving for New Mexico, but I wanted to stop by before I left... Take care!

Jack Foster said...

Hey Ces! Thanks for stopping by :o) The only problem with your header is that it is too fantastic! The only reason it takes me so long to scroll down to your post, is because I can’t stop looking at your header ;o)

Are you also a cereal "Thinker"?
Another question: Is sycophant the opposite of elophant?

I'll get my elophant back in 15 days. He is going to shout at me, :Help! Help! Get me out! I been FRAMED!"

People tell me I am a syco...but will not say which kind. All I know is, it's kinda FUN!

Seriously (ahem, if that's possible!)...Ces, I know (maybe we all do) I know you are human, with all the quirks (LIKE that word!) everyone has. But it seems I admire--without reservation--thos who do something really well, which I cannot, or will not even try.

Example: Someone tells me, "Oh, you played that Ave Maria so well, as if you were praying". and I think --sometimes I SAY!--
"You could also, if you wanted to, and put in the work."

Same way I say that anyone if they wish can stay sober. All it takes is "Do Not Drink"

Not to give out accolades here, but I will write that I love all--yes, ALL) your work--and you.
PEACE

Oh Ces, I dropped off a couple comments at Mita's place, one of which you will enjoy, I think.

Steve, I can't comment at Mita's. Check your email. You'll see why. As for sickophants, there are so many of those too. I suppose we all gravitate to those who can massage our egos best. The blogs is not really the best place to be honest about what we truly think and feel. These are personal sites. What is the point of being honest and then getting someone's feelings hurt or stopping them from having an inflated ego? Check your mail.

Steve, I am learning to draw like a modern artist. I will share my work soon.

Steve E said...

Yes (re: modern) some of your work (at least one or two pieces I've noticed were moving in that direction
..Maybe mistakes in my interpretation

Oh, probably in some of your paintings in archives, THAT'S where!

Ces said...

By modern, I mean intentionally ugly, kitschy and lacking in skill! Thanks a lot. Hahahahahah! HAHAHAHHAHAHA! AAAAAAAAHHHHH!! Now, perhaps I will start winning contests and get noticed?

Steve E said...

THAT'S IT! "Kitschy"...I was afraid to use a wrod so descriptive in front of a grande-witch--rhymes with "sandwich".

Tonight I have been reading up on Wiccan. I had written long comment to you about it, but I'm gonna email it--a bit heavy for 'comment'.

Within 5 minutes I'll send OK? It is NOT kitschy--grin and LOL!

Ces said...

Oy. Mita has corrupted you.

Ces said...

I do not have email.

Steve E said...

OKAY, Here goes...and Blogger is gonna ban me from their pages...I'll have to use that WORDPRESS! Oh well:

Ces, this was ready to go out in comment, but thought maybe not--I'd lose all three of my Peeps HA- HAHAHA!

Tonight I've been reading up on Wiccan. WOW! One thing I must speak to SOMEONE about. It's an experience I had--which, if it had happened but one time, I'd have long dismissed the event(s) as fantasy.

(This part was not in the comment):
My happenings have to do with the bending of time. At first, when I'd leave a little late, and arrive EARLY, I figured my wrist-watch--or my eyes--were acting up. But this kept happening--at first seemingly by chance. I tried to urge it to happen, and it seemed like it WAS working! Never did become certain if my will had anything to do with it.

Typical scenario: I would leave home at 6:50 AM for a 7 AM meeting, a 25-minute ride. I just went easily, as if I was not running late, sort of serene, as they say. Calm and cool, I'd arrive at the 24-Hour Club at 6:55 AM--25 minutes in 5 (please don't make a joke of this, for one time I AM serious!).

Following was in comment:
This has been a rather insistent happening--within the past 2 years--and if someone was telling me about it being their own experience I'd have scoffed (is that a real word?--grin!). But it happened to ME! It makes a difference.

Six months had gone by with no occurrences--until last month, January 2011. I cannot put away from my mind the approx 2 dozen times in the past couple years. I'm shy of mentioning it here in comments (me? shy?)...

I did blog it once last summer, and nobody responded in a positive manner--I take that back! ONE commented she had the same experiences--an AA blogger who I have met in South Carolina.
(NOT a 'BS' person!)

Maybe this is more in Mita's realm or maybe nobody's. However, I would not even be thinking about it EXCEPT it was covered in my Wiccan readings tonight.

I'll probably dream about this tonight.....but it really REALLY happened. NOW I cannot wait until the next time--I am never given advance intuitions or notice All my life I've been intuitive--it's how I got by.

Some times even a little mind reading happened (actually, often!). Our parish priest (3 years ago) said, " I cannot even THINK with you around...stop reading my mind, Steve." (And he meant it--grin!)

Ces, if you think it wise, just reject this or whatever...OK?(--grinning!!!)

Steve, thank you for your comment. I don't filter my visitor's comments. I only delete spam and phishing site comments. I have only deleted one blogger's comments and that was from someone who stalked me.

There are certainly a lot of unexplained phenomena. When I was an ER and trauma nurse I took care of so many patients who felt they had powers like walking through concrete walls or flying.

Hehehe. Okay I have a confession to make. Mita calls me the Grandewitch because she is young enough to be my daughter. As for the witch part, some people would like to substitute the first letter. The possibilities are not appealing: ditch, fitch, hitch...etc.

Where was I? Oh yes.

Here is an unexplained phenomena. How did this great country elect an incompetent president?

Go figure.

Seriously though, I have no suppernatural talent. I don't even think I have any natural one at all.

What time is it?

I have no watch either.

Sympathy for The Devil said...

i know something about modern art.

modern art = i could do that + yeah, but you didn't

Steve E said...

Ces...I have nothing more to say. Well, that's not completely true. I miss you.

Your art and your words speak for who you really are. And whoever comes here MUST leave, just shaking their head in wonder--at 'what God hath wrought' when He created Ces.

Your mind must be something of a crazy machine, yet you are not the "slice-off-my-own-ear" kind of crazy. CRAZY meaning 'far ahead, beyond understanding of me mere mortal'....

I love every squiggle, every short line, long mark, shaded, white and black part--but more, and especially the thought process which came before and during creation.

Now, please try to keep your hat from bursting here, but--oh well, skip it! Any more will remain unwritten, unspoken.

PEACE! Travel safe.

Modern Art - I had an itch so I scratched a pad.

Cesalicious!!! How I have missed you! I love you exactly as you are. Always did. Always will. Did you get my e-mail a little while ago? Andrew Finnie said...

Erdos? Didn't he also discover the fact that the chances of you taking a leaky tupperware container to work with your lunch in it was increased fourfold (the chance of it leaking [aka the 'leaky factor'] if you had any of the following inside said container : Tuna, salmon, sardines, caviar, liquid sour kraut.

Pardo me. I must say that because words escape me to describe the delight I find in your drawings, in the iconography that taps into our subconscious (you and amalia score good points there)

Coming here is like eating at a wonderful restauraunt. Sometimes I just need to lean back, enjoy - and keep my mouth shut while I chew.

Steve E said...

Just checking in--it's something I feel I must do...like saying my bedtime prayers...

Oh God, if there is "...art in heaven.." please make it not be modern--grin!

Steve E said...

I wouldn't know 'modern' art from cave painting (paleolithic period?)

...but I can sing a 440 "A" or any other note in perfect pitch!

Nobody ever paid me for that

Ya cannot eat a 440 "A"
