A True Friend
Avoid
Energy suckers
Toxic people
People who make your life dysfunctional.
People who love misery
People who use you
Who thrive in focusing on their difficulties rather than their abilities
People who always find something wrong with anything
Who can find nothing right with what you aim to accomplish
Who love to talk about themselves and their problems
Who always make themselves the focus
Who cherish being a victim.
God has given you people to come into your life to make you fulfill your God-given gifts
Real friends are those who do not say they love you and then drag you down.
Real friends do not get jealous of your accomplishments.
Real friends do not get jealous of your other friends who make you be a better person.
A true friend is one who makes you feel hopeful.
A true friend is one who makes you live life to the fullest.
A true friend gives, not takes.
A true friend does not use you.
I thought that was a terrific sermon. I thought of the important people in my life and those I call my friends. I slept soundly that night. However, I have not seen another television service again. I hate television, maybe...
I am still trying to get back into the rhythm of things. I have actively committed myself to live a balanced life. I am integrating an exercise program into my daily schedule and that has taken over my blogging time. I am eating better, managing my stress, resetting people's expectations of what I am willing to do. I used to give everything I had at the expense of my health and sometimes my family. No more. What is important to me? A healthy life to share with my family and my best friends, my work, my art... I find that I share more time with those who truly matter. Last night, exhausted and tired from exercise, I sat in the sofa with The Viking watching a program in the History Channel! I only got up because he told me to take a shower before I fell asleep. Ha!

I'm glad that you are doing great things for yourself Ces. Balance...it is the key. I'm trying that out for myself..... it's hard somedays....lol.
ReplyDeleteI like the *avoid* part of the sermon. I try to avoid these kind of people also. I really dislike people who try and suck the life out of you.
xo
Great post Ces, especially in a time when it seems the whole of the world expects us to do everything despite the fact that there are things that we *need* for ourselves, family and dear friends.
ReplyDeleteI think constant re-evaluation of what we do is something everyone should have as a daily ritual....and glad you got to spend some quality time with the Viking, even if he did send you to the shower! ;D
TSUP!!♥

Good for you, Ces! You are a "giving" person and unfortunately some people only know how to "take". If you're not careful, you can be sucked dry and not have the energy to spend with your family and loved ones.
ReplyDeleteAll the things you are doing will make you stronger physically and mentally, and you will have a happy soul.
It is good that you analyzed your life and decided to make positive changes. I wish you love and happiness, Ces.

Hi CES!!!! the photos are wonderful...there is so much good things around us these days!!! yummm
ReplyDeleteand your lesson is very interesting!!! I know that when I got older...I only want to be around positive people and anyone that has a negative attitude or a person that brings everyone down....they are not for me....
I have even stopped hanging out with such people...they were draining me and I need to just use my energy in a positive way!!!
Hugssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Hi Ces! all those vegetables are so delicious looking, beautiful works of art. I love that you are being kinder to yourself, and working towards a healthier life. We all need to figure out what the best things are for ourselves. And then take steps to implement these things. It is a constant struggle but you are doing the right things. Even if it means I don't get to see as much of you, your blogging, I will be glad if you are more comfortable and happier. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI do agree with all those points, Ces. And your lovely photo montage of all those lovely fruits is delicious! I hope you will continue to find and maintain balance and feel all the better for it.

Oh my Cesalicious, I have been missing!!! A lot apparently! I am happy you are caring for yourself, for if we do not fill ourselves, we have nothing to give. My daughter-in-law has been here for court dealing so we have been busy. One sermon I remember by my favorite priest was all the things that Mary never said, such as, now is not a good time for me to have a baby.
ReplyDeleteKeep walking! Soon you will be here. **blows kisses** Deb
Ces,
ReplyDeleteYou are the right person at the right time for me. I have just gone through a really difficult time with my sister, and have been trying to convey what you express so perfectly right here to her. She is my only family, outside my immediate, and she is a treasure to me. It saddens me that she is so very sucessful in so many areas of her life, but still struggles with the demons from our childhood.
I am often more of a mother to her than a sister, and that has been the case lately more than ever.
I went through a similar process as the one you are going through about three years ago, and it is ongoing. I live very simply, keep dear friends close, and try to take care and be balanced with myself in the midst of this huge family.
This post is perfect for me to share with my sissy.
Thank you and big smiles and hugs!
I love the picture of all the beautiful vegetables, what a bounty.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are doing for you Ces, we will benefit from that.
LOve and hugs.
a balanced life sounds wonderful, a way to live life's many facets.
ReplyDeleteDear Ces,
my nut arrived today! It really is quite wonderful. I love all the details and it looks mighty fine matted in black. My heart leans towards yours with gratitude and in celebration of you blog anniversary~

Hello Ces, I can hear your six pack rippling as you type. You know, I had a six pack for a while. Now I have a one pack.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few advantages to a one pack actually.
It is much easier to count than a six pack. I can count a one pack on one hand as an example (actually with one finger as it turns out), where as with a six pack I need to be take one hand out of my pocket to count it - as I was born with the correct number of fingers on each hand. And I count myself lucky for that (but with six fingers on either hand I may have ben able to count to 12 - Is life fair, go figure!)
Thank you for sharing yourself with us. We appreciate it. But of course all life should be in balance.
You know though, you are such a good artist, and that means that you must become obssesed with things - otherwise you would not be such a master.
So being a good artist is easier if you are obssessed - but crappy for balance in your life.
Ah to have that determination and drive to live a more healthy life! I am so proud of you, Ces!!! And you've made me want a super yummy salad!
ReplyDeleteWhere are you? I am waiting on the front porch. How fast do you walk? You should be here by now. **kisskiss** Deb
ReplyDeleteThat collection of fruits and vegetables does symbolize the good life that He has prepared for us. If only we learn to cherish it more... have a blessed weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe best exercise is walking for half an hour everyday. It not only improves your health, but stimulates your brain function and does not stress your joints like jogging etc. I know it sounds simple but it is effective.
ReplyDeleteLove the colourful produce and that preacher man was preaching good sense.
