Alright!!! No more tears. I apologize for my previous post being such a tearjerker. I did not realize my catharsis was going to make everyone's tear ducts work overtime. Here is the reason why I started this series. I was cleaning my office drawer one day and found this sketch I did of my son when he was in 4th grade. I looked at it and I saw his eyes. My co-workers call him "pretty." He was a beautiful boy and now a pretty good-looking teenager. More than anything, he has big beautiful and honest eyes.
I thought about people's eyes, how they reveal so much in a person. I thought about my sisters', friends' and sisterfriends' eyes. I realized how they all have bright, beautiful, honest eyes... but I know they shed a tear or two sometimes.

Hey Ces!!! oooo I am the first commenter!!! Thanks for the history of your recent series. Such a wonderful compilation of beautiful, strong, independent women. The portrait of your son is wonderful. Love the textures. hey thanks for stopping by... you're the best!!!
ReplyDeleteYep, for me, the eyes say it all...almost. And you have captured all what they say--you know your Peeps so well!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful part of their lives you are--and by very loose association--of mine also!

ReplyDeleteErr :) I wish I was number one.
Okay Ces, I vote for clowns next did I say that?
It's just not good enough to be serious, though it is Cathartic capital C.
You know these works really engage the viewer. Eyes are strange, you can look at them, but sometimes you LOOK at them, and you communicate with those eyes in a more than human way.
That's when you are younger and hormonal of course .... :)
Heh.
Keep posting, I am starting to like your work ...
Thank you Mr. Finnie. I am doing my best to meet your satisfaction and obtain your approval. Heheheh! Where have you been? I am glad to see you, although the comments are disappearing and reappearing.
ReplyDeleteHello Ces, yes the comments are going and coiming - er coming :)
ReplyDeleteDamn keyboard!
Where have I been?
Well life is catched up with me and I must live it - eg go surfing, work, eat, fix windows, eat cat, blend hair, paint freckles....
What was that I just said?
Language is a strange English, eh?
Don't worry, I am here.
I just run out of incredably witty and fantastical amusing observations occasionally.
Hard to believe, eh?
:)
Eeeew! Eat cat! Eeeeew! What an image. Eeek!
ReplyDeleteHa Ces, just kidding, we don't really eat them-------- except at Lent :)

ReplyDeleteThere's something different about this one...Ah, I see you colored in the face? Look at his rosy cheeks! Those eyes are more than beautiful, Ces. You really put your heart and soul into your boy... (^_^) ox
ReplyDeleteTsup*!* I love how this series evolved from finding the sketch of your son in the draw. The eyes have it
ReplyDeleteTears are good, our eyes need a little shower from within every now and then, helps us see the good things*!*
Those eyes! I feel myself getting pulled into them. Oh my goodness, what an adorable drawing! He looks like a little boy from a classic story, like a Charles Dickens tale. I see you already took a tissue and wiped away his tear. Which is a relief, since seeing children shed a tear is the most heartrending thing.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful image of your boy here, Ces. Manon sent me over and I have read this and your last post. You speak with such eloquence. I am haunted by the images evoked by your words. I am heartbroken by the whackjobs in the world that could and would harm anybody...but especially a defenseless baby. What is wrong with people?
ReplyDeleteThe difference that coloring the face makes Ces! Of course, you were not trying to strictly accent the eyes but it is most interesting to see where the series came from and the pivotal piece.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful portrait---I see touched of your oil style in this too.
XXOO!!
Anne
