"...it sounds like I'm much like all the other wonderful friends in this group - I am usually a no nonsense kind of woman and I'm always seeing the silver lining. But once in a while I need a good cry and then move forward again. It's like a good rain that clears the air..."
Silke is a beautiful and gifted woman. She creates the most amazing hand knitted and hand-tied scarves. You can purchase them from her Etsy shop. I have one of hers but it is so intricate with so many overlapping silk ribbons that I CANNOT draw it overnight, so I modified it and I let my own creation slither and wrap around her lovely neck.
I love scarves. I have a collection of them. For this series, I drew my scarves on my friends and family.
I have a confession to make.
For Illustration Friday's theme "Slither" I actually drew a portrait of someone with a boa constrictor instead of a feather boa around her neck. Then I realized that this series is about the beautiful, strong, courageous and gifted women I know (or knew when I was young), admire, respect and adore. So, no boa constrictor slithering in my blog.

So far...

why is she crying and smiling at the same time? :o
ReplyDeleteAmba, you have never shed a tear and smiled at the same time?
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm sure Silke will love you even more after this, Ces!!! Her eyes looks especially beautiful, it's like they're telling you a story... And of course, the slithering scarf looks amazing! :0 oxox
ReplyDeleteCes you Wonder of Creation,
ReplyDeleteI have just had an orgy sinking myself into your new series.
Tears are a wonderful release of an overburdened soul, be it from pain, from sorrow or joy or the exquisite tightness around the heart for that which moves us deeply: light, beauty, character in an old experienced face, a simple blade of grass in the wind... the world is so full of beauty, my eyes keep filling with sheer joy when I look around.
Bless you for doing this wonderful series.
Hey Ces! I can't wait till Silke sees this. She will love it! Another great "tear" piece! I'm really liking this series. Parting and tears are such a sweet sorrow.
ReplyDeleteCame to see the great illustration, pulled up a chair and stayed a while for the awesome Pink Floyd tune. :D
ReplyDeleteCes, I do not know why some Higher Power has let me be here (on your blog) but it seems I am supposed to be privy to at least one more AMAZEMENT, in a life of some amazing events, happenings.
ReplyDeleteYOU are enthusiastically AMAZING!
("Enthusiasm"...orig., having God within.)
Lovely especially when you put them all together but scarves? I have no skill with scarves! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteTearfully smiles are the best of tears!
ReplyDeleteI went and checked out Silke's blog - thanks for the intro, she seems a talented and fascinating woman, and obviously good sister-friend to many! Her scarves are quite beautiful, those rich gem tones - love the ribbon yarns!
You've got me thinking about tears quite a bit now Ces - whenever i feel my eyes begin to well, which they've been doing a fair amount these days, with all the amazing support I've been receiving from near and far, through all my blogging friends...

Aah, those eyes! Great big pools that draw me in. I imagine them to be filled with the most delicious tea, sweetened with honey. Perhaps tea poured from one of those giant cups she is frequently holding. And her amazing scarf! What a beautiful portrait of a most beautiful woman, creative in so many ways.
ReplyDeleteCes, I have just posted a wrap that India made for me. You might enjoy some of the detail.
ReplyDeleteXXX Arija
Wasn't she a love to make that for me?
ReplyDeleteWhen I am happy and well they are green, sometimes they look black and when I am truly unwell they are a grey-green flecked with pale brown.
That should give you enough to go on with... oh, when I am really unwell they are bloodshot but forget I said that!
Love and bonne chance,
Arija
Oh, Ces! I love YOU even more now! Your comment was such an added zest, thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Ahh, bless your heart, Ces! It is amazing how much inspiration you can get from people around you, and even those we've never met!! Honestly, a few months ago I wouldn't even dream of having friends from blogging who could inspire me so much... (Yes, yes, you're definitely one of them!)
ReplyDeleteYikes, this is turning out to be a teary conversation for me...hahaha!!
Of course these are tears of joy!! Only the best kind of tears there are!
ReplyDeleteAnd no, Joy doesn't live next door. I think it's a he, and the name doesn't sound too good. (^____^)

Hello Ces, I am just catching up with your new series. What lovely renditions of your lovely friends. Very thought provoking, the combination of love and tears. I also read the post at the beginning of this series, where you wrote of your start in nursing. What a tough love beginning, I could not have done what you did and continue to do. Lucky for the rest of us there are people like you out there. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE! Such a De-Lovely interpretation of The Beautiful One. I believe you did a fabulous job in capturing Silke's scarf...I have three of them, and I understand the problem in trying to capture the blank spaces, and how in the world does Silke crochet the tread/ribbon. Ces, I feel like I'm 16 years old and in The Most Popular Group in school! What an honor it is to be among these strong, talented women. **head spins and pops off** I love you with all my heart. **kisses** Deb
