Permanent Pigment Ink on 9"x12" Bristol BoardRESCUE ME!!!
Lepidoptera was just flying one day when she heard a cry near Musa. Poor Arachnida was crying. "What's wrong?" She said to Arachnida. Arachnida replied, "I am stuck, please rescue me from this web." Lepidoptera continued, "Are you hurt?" Arachnida cried louder. "Please , please, help me." "Okay hang on..."
Now that should be interesting. I updated this drawing for Illustration Friday. RESCUE is this week's theme. I have many stories along this line but I am so stressed. So I shall recuse myself from this task, wait... recuse... rescue...

Musa. Mu"sa\, n.; pl. Mus[ae]. [NL., fr. Ar. mauz, mauza, banana.] (Bot.) A genus of perennial, herbaceous, endogenous plants of great size, including the banana (Musa sapientum), the plantain (M. paradisiaca of Linn[ae]us, but probably not a distinct species), the Abyssinian (M. Ensete), the Philippine Island (M. textilis, which yields Manila hemp), and about eighteen other species. Reference: (http://Dictionary.com) Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc. I love bananas! Yes I do, but not the perfect yellow unblemished bananas that are sold in US supermarkets. Those bananas have been subjected to torture. They are mass produced, harvested prematurely and then exposed to gas to ripen them perfectly. If you you want to read more about gassing bananas, read this post. I took the opportunity to re-post my colored pencil drawing of bananas. They were difficult to draw because I kept eating them and I was getting full. My favorite banana is the plantain. I use it for cooking.
Okay. So! My dearest friend told me she likes my banana plant drawings. She said she likes the shiny leaves. So I asked her if she wanted me to draw a banana plant. She said yes. I planned on drawing trees behind the banana plants but my daughter told me to stop. She said to make it simple. You know how I draw spiders and lizards on my trees. Well the banana is not a tree. In real life, spiders love to make their nests and cobwebs on bananas leaves. The dried ones are perfect nests for spiders. Alas! My friend does not like spiders and I completely forgot to remember that when I was meticulously drawing the spider web. I am so sorry. It's just a drawing.
By the way, you can eat the banana fruit, heart and the core of the stalk. The leaves are used for cooking and wrapping foods.

Ces,
Your banana plant drawing is divine. Your friend is going to love it, spider web and all!
Your beautiful drawing of the bananas with colored pencil makes me want to go eat a banana right now! But, alas, I must go to bed. I will eat a banana tomorrow and think of you, Ces.
Goodnight, banana lady.

Day-o! Me say daaaaay-o!
Oh my goodness, Ces. I can practically see my reflection in your leaves! Oh yes, I'm sure your friend LOVES this banana tree. She doesn't even mind that there's a spider in there! This is MAJESTIC!
And wow, look at all those varieties of banana. That is a beautiful drawing! I can smell them. I know the banana is supposed to be the perfect fruit, but I had no idea it was the perfect tree as well. You can practically eat the whole thing!
Bananas,Plantains . .my mother, also a nurse, used to say "There's a meal in every banana" Lubly banananana still life but I find those bald twinnies a bit scary. Actually I hate bananas, love the flavour, just can't dig the texture. You're driving me bananas.
Lovely drawing, Ces,
I love bananas just before they ripen, when they are firm and a bit green.
I had a student years ago who told me, "Bananas are nature's chocolate." and I think I might have to agree with her.
xoxo
Don't you think food smells absolutely lovely when cooked inside banana leaves? ...hhmmm, yum, yum, yum! (^_^)
Oh, and of course, no need to tell you how much I LOVE your drawings, right? Because I do!!! oxx
Love the bananas!!! I don't often find the little tiny red bananas we would occasionally get in New Orleans. They were creamy and sweet, silky like ice cream.
And of course fried plantains! OH! For a huge platter of those!!! Once in a while I can find them here, but they have traveled and are never quite the same.
Yes, I am banana crazy. Well, I am crazy period, so I might as well be bananas too!
Love your tree---the Victorians believed a spiderweb was a symbol of good luck!
XXOO!!
Anne
Whoo..... love the banner. Did you put it up there recently? I've been out of the loop way too long.
The banana piece is awesome. I ate so many of them when I was pregnant with Alex that she hates them...lol! Ok..... maybe I over did it with them but they're so good. Mmmm.... makes me think of banana bread....mmm.
I'm sitting in the airport waiting for my flight back to Ohio. I need to paint.... I've had huge withdrawals..lol!
Have a great day, twin sisterfriend!
Help! A little arachnid needs rescuing!
Love that painting at the top of your blog. It filled the whole screen with its colorful beauty. Your banana drawing is fabulous and I for one love the spiderweb. I would hope that even for a person who doesn't like spiders they could appreciate the beauty of a spider web.
Recently someone sent me a long informative article about bananas. I copied some of it here. Sorry to be so pedantic but it is interesting. This is only half of it:
Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anemia : High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin.. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Hey Ces!!!! I like bananas too, because I was born in Monkey's year! :)
Great pictures with spider!

Yes we have no bananas.
I LOVE bananas, all kinds and the red ones are so good.
There is a place here that sells banana trees, I want one so bad.
I am a monkey year person too, never thought about that.
Madi and I eat a banana every morning and when I bring it out she goes, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! That means bananas and nummy num nums.
I love the banana tree and I am kind of partial to spiders and webs too!!
It is a halloween banana tree!!!
Have a wonderful weekend my lovely!
what happened to the red bananas with seeds inside we used to eat? i wish the farmers still plant them as they are very exotic.
BB: They are still around. They are not mass produced. We have them here, they come from South America but they are not as sweet as the ones we had when we were kids. They have big red seeds and they always gave me "butod tiyan." How are you? Oh look! I called you BB. Hahahaha! Tsup!
Such wonderful linework! Love your Bamboo Grove image too!
No no nooooooooo! Fly away, fly AWAAAAAYYY! Gah, trickery!
Go bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
cool pieces
WOWOWOWOWOW Oh you guys, I appreciate all of your thoughtful comments! Thank you thank you very much!
Audrey, thank you very much. So did you eat a banana today? I did not eat a banana. I ate strawberries.
Thank you Diana, likewise! Yum! Bananas for desert.
Aaah! Bella, sing it sister! How do you look? Oh of course you love mighty lovely, just gorgeous. Thankfully the spider drawing does not scare my friend. Now I wonder what she will think of the butterfly being so foolish?
Hahahah! Baino. The little ones are the sweetest! Try them. They are also a different texture. You'll love the small ones.
Hello Vicki, really? The green ones taste "aplod." That's how we describe the taste in our language.
Amalia!!! YEEEEEEEEES! Oh have you ever had fish broiled over charcoal and wrapped in banana leaves? Our rcoe cakes are also steamed wrapped in banan leaves. Ooooh, you just made me long for my favorite childhood foods! Aaaw! Thank you. How are you, my pretty?
Anne, yes, fried plantains even much better when smothered with sugar, wrapped in spring roll wrapper and then friend. We call them "Turon" YUMMMMMM!
Hello Lovely Manon! I hope you had a wonderful flight back home. I miss our bloggermance! Paint! Paint! I would like to paint too!
Bella, the little arachnid is so sly! Yowza!
Oh Jan! I had the most wonderful time reading your comment when I was having lunch.
More later...
Oh, what a wonderful post! You make me hungry for bananas, the real kind, the sweet ones, the ones ripened on the plant. The best bananas we ever ate were in Mexico and Hawaii - straight from the plant and unlike anything we can get here. My faves, like yours, are plantains. I could eat them every day... And anything I've eaten that was wrapped in banana leaves has simply been delicious!
Ok, you made me so hungry, I almost forgot to comment on your brilliant drawing! Amazing, spider and all. Actually, my favorite part is the pig!
Hope you can relax today, dearest Ces!! Much love, Silke
You ARE a wonderful leaf - like the banana plant leaf! I, too, love leaves of any kind. I often sit on the back porch and just stare up in to the tree tops at all the leaves rustling in the breeze. There's nothing more soothing to me... As to crawling around with ants, I used to do that until we moved to fire ant country again. They love me, but my body doesn't like their bites... Here's to a perfectly leafy day!
Good morning, my ray of light! Break out those new art supplies. Take care you do not wash your canvas and paint your laundry. Yay, happy happy! Tsup!
Uh oh..... Saturday disappeared...flew away....gone.. Perhaps the moon stole the post!
Are you painting? I did!
♥
These illos are beautiful!! love the delicate line rendering of the top piece, the design is lovely!!
And the banana just look delicious!!!
What a cute drawing. I especially love the pig. Poor butterfly, all tangled up. I love bananas too and you made me laugh when you kept eating them instead of drawing them!!
Boy, you're good with those coloured pencils too, Ces! I enjoyed this post!
Hi tita Ces, daan lang!:)
this is such a charming and lovable drawing, it brings up childhood feelings that i love :D
your bananas are divine ;)
Ah, Ces, I love that you find these difficult to draw because you keep eating them! Please keep eating them, because your drawings are wonderful! I have only seen bananas growing in two parts of the world - Bali and Tenerife. We cold-climate folks are always surprised that they grow on long stems with the fruit pointing upwards. We expect them to grow in small bunches, pointing downwards, just like we find them in the supermarket!
