To My Favorite Eight Year Old:
Happy Birthday Emma!
From Elie
In The Land Of Ces And Her Dishes

.

Ah, good girl Elie! No sooner has she returned from the desert to celebrate the lovely Deborah's birthday, Ces has her setting up a busy birthday party for one precocious and delightful eight year old.

Happy birthday Emma dearest! Do you know you are Ces's favorite eight year old in the whole wide world? Yes! I asked Elie if she would mind setting up your birthday party and she said she would be delighted but let's see what she has done here.

There's one thing, the clocks have no hands, in fact the only clock that runs has legs, so better get out of the way or at least I hope you can run as fast as it can. You can choose the sun for day or the moon for the night. There are enough cupcakes, in fact enough to invite all the bunnies, how many are there? I have lost count, there's one playing with froggie but I also see one up there on the tree, no, wait, there are four of them, no five, ...goodness, there are at least a dozen maybe three dozens or more and they are all over the place.

Perhaps the disruption of my circadian rhythm, yes, that's a word for you mental ninja junior, (you have to look it up in the encyclopedia, not ask your Mom or your sister) caused me to mix up the scales because those acorns are the biggest pair of nuts I have ever seen, why they could crush those three blind mice? Not mice, three blind rabbits. Do you see them? What's that? A stick man but where is the stick woman?

Watch it, you almost stepped on Helge the young gnome. Do you know the difference between a young gnome from a grown up gnome? You can see Helge's dad Olaf hiding from you! Do you even see yourself? Do you see where Olaf lives with his dad Helge and mom Edna? They are forest gnomes and so they live in the base of the tree. The gnomes don't go out in the daytime unless they have to do certain chores requiring sunlight so they wear sun glasses like the Eskimos'. You know, you almost stepped on Olaf's teacup which he dropped on the ground as he hurried to hide from you. Don't forget to wear your flip flops.

My! My! My! That is a huge birthday cake. Make sure you share it with your sister, Mom, Grandma and Grandpa. Do you see them? Your mom is hiding while she reads. I heard your sister's favorite number is nine. I hope you can climb up the tree house and help get Oz out of the teacup.

Will you please help me find my canvas, paint brushes and tubes of paint so I can paint again? You can ride the white elephant, she is Elie's friend. Do you think Elie will step on the wagon and the bicycle? Don't be afraid of the bees, they don't really sting. I don't think you can ride the dragonfly though but you may want to try the butterfly. On second thought, maybe not. How about the squirrel?

Oh oh oh! Do you know that mandarin ducks hatch their eggs inside a tree, way up from the ground. I think I see the mommy mandarin duck about to teach the duckling to jump down. Where is that squeal coming from?

Dearest Emma, I still have to wrap your birthday present so, you get to celebrate your birthday for many days!

Happy Birthday Emma Sweetheart!

.
(P.S. Please tell your sister I can't wait to celebrate her birthday.)

  4. Thank you ladies! Ah the verdict will be from Emma. I hope she likes it. I am nervous as a fourth grader about to take her placement placement exam!

Oh on a separate note. Everyone who played and tried to guess the number of animals on Deborah's Birthday drawing, none of you got it right but I have decided to give everyone who played a matted nut. I will be visiting your blogs to ask for your email addresses.

Deborah, I still have your drawing. I will be mailing it soon. I promise. Tsup.

Thank you to everyone who left beautiful and kind comments and messages. I appreciate your kindness and cherish your friendship. God bless all of you, my friends.

Now I wish my favorite eight year old a Happy Happy Birthday!

  14. Aaaaaawww!!! See! That's what I want more than anything. I want to make someone happy with my art. You can tell Emma and Nona I can be their personal black and white pen and ink illustrator. They can tell me what they want to see and what to draw (so I don't have to think too much - hahahah!). If they will have me of course. Oh Oh Oh, wait, how presumptuous of me. For a moment my big head almost exploded and released all the logic and humility and forgot that their Mom is my favorite, ever ever , illustrator because she is the best. Why am I speaking like a teenager? Hehehe.

Happy birthday Emma sweet darling Emma! TSUP! TSUP! TSUP!!!
