For My Dux Litterarum: An Acer Grove and Hydrangea Flowers
For my Dux Litterarum who tickles my brain and always has the most wonderful things to say about my drawings even if I am making faces at them. Below is the full picture. The image above is a high resolution area detail. I drew thirteen smiley faces and three lizards. Can you see some of them?

I think music feeds the muse. LOL! I like this and think it's awesome. I once wrote a poem while listening to Pink Floyd and many years later found it in an old notebook. I'd only ripped off two lines from the song. Tee-Hee. Blessings!
wow ces! i love this...i really want to know how long it took u too create?! this is something i think would take me yeARS..NO I KNOW IT WOULD TAKE ME YEARS.... i really wish u would make a video of you drawing... your work blows me away! ......and u continue to crank them out daily!!!??????? wow!
xox
Hello Marion, thank you. That's great that you wrote a poem. My concern is actually more on my brain because I kept playing the song.
Linda, thank you. I tried to count the hours on this and I spent over 24 hours on this drawing this past week but that was already after I have started quite a bit of it. I'd underestimate this to about 40 hours. This was a wrist killer! I don't think I can make a living being an illustrator of this sort of drawings. I'd be a pauper. That will be the most boring video. I sometimes draw in bed.
Oh, Ces, I'd love to be a maple in that maple grove of yours! To have all those other maples with me and beautiful hydrangea flowers - what a life!! I sure love this and can't see what you are not liking about it. I guess because I can't draw... I wish, I wish, I wish I could draw like you!!! Wonderful! Love, Silke
Thank you Silke. You are much too kind. My drawing is okay I guess. I think I got carried away by drawing so many trees. It reminds me of the forest at my father-in-law's home, it actually scares me to venture deep into the woods because I am afraid of animals. I drew 13 smiley faces on this drawing and three lizards but I can't scan the entire drawing. It will only scan a fourth at a time.
Who be your Ducks Litter-her-rum?
I truly love this grove. It has a different feel than your other groves, perhaps because of the undergrowth. There is beauty in the depth. I also believe that because there is so much ink, the delicate maple leaves appear light and provide focus. I do hope you grow to love and appreciate the marvel you created. I do.
Bella, I used SIX .005 nib pens, one .08 nib, one .01 nib and one .03 nib. I love your version: Ducks Litter-her-rum. Can you say "Quack"? I am in bed contemplating when to start my next drawing of an elephant eating nuts for one midlife poet. Maybe I should just draw an elephant's nuts?
I looked hard Ces, but could not find a lizard or a smiley face. How disappointing for me. You hid them well.
Unlike you, I do not find this work disappointing. to me your drawings are magical. You are by far too self critical.
wow! 24 hours...amaaaazing. I feel so bad about your wrist. i hope for all of our sake it gets better. oh and no elephant nuts...just fluzy's nuts please.
Queen Ces of the Arts!!! OMG!! No wonder you have carpal tunnel! Your works are unflippin' believable! Talent is gushing out of you!!! I bow, I bow to the Queen!!!
ok seriously...you are amazing with the details CES!!! what the !!! this is beautiful and I love that each and every one of your pen strokes is visible and makes the whole picture amazing....I have no idea how you have the patience for all of these pieces...but you do....you must be really disciplined!!! I am in awe!!!
Hugsssssssss
Diana
Holy microbes, those lizards are tiny! I'm not sure I can spot too many happy faces, but I'm sure they are there. I think that's why I love this picture so much. It's subliminal priming!
Triskaidekaphobia!
Hi Elizabeth, I am waming up to it. Maybe I will attach Pink Floyd's Cluster One song to it so I will totally love it then. Haha! Really, who among my blog friends will say, they don't like it? Everyone is too nice to me.
Linda! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's what Deborah said! NOT elephants' nuts. I promise it won't be. My wrist feels better. Thank you.
Aaaaaw Manon! Here, let me bow with you and to you too! Oh! There's a bag of Sun Chips down there! (BTW, I opened my bag - those chips are EVIIIIIIIIL!!!!!)
"WHAT THE" indeed Diana? How can I get you to complete that sentence? Hahahahah! Thank you dear. Isn't it great that all of you wonderful artists are on my blog saying all of these when I can equally say the same for each and everyone of you. What the heck! YOU! A painting a day?!!! Yeah!
Hey Dux! Not all the smiley faces are there. You may be able to find three up there. Yes, they are tiny! Explain 'subliminal priming' will you please?
My daughter's birth flower is the hydrangea . . .music . . the meaning of life. I can't live without it. As someone who has no attention to detail, I cannot tell you how I admire it in others (my keyboard broke and I'm on an old clanger and the 'a' key and 'e' keys have to be bashed to bejezzus so my wrists are going out in sympathy with yours)
I can't imagine creating without music! that's why I leave the blog up, with the eternal jazz track, which lulls me into creative mode!!!
I love the trees...they are so inviting to come in and wander.... I would say I can't believe you used that many pens, but I do. All the detail, all the clarity.
Wonderful Ces!!!! :)
XXOO!!
Anne
Ooooo, I had the most fun this morning gazing at your wonderful drawing, looking for the little things you've included. I found several of the smiley faces, I think I found the lizard, but am not sure. And can it be I spied a heart?! Can't wait for your drawing of the elephant nuts! Totally intrigued... Love, Silke
P.S. I keep forgetting to use the frog mug, but when I do, it's extra special fun. We do love to give it to company filled with coffee. It always makes us laugh when those eyes first pop out to stare at them...
I love this one. All of them are wonderful drawings, but I think this may be my favorite.
Four smilies and 2 lizards (I think) before I went cross-eyed! Really need a magnifying glass to view the details - goodness knows how you drew it without going crazy!! Marvellous work. Oh, and welcome back, not that you were actually away for so long!! x
I love the texture in the foreground trees, and the subtlety of the contrast. I like the Warhol-like self portrait beneath your profile link, too.
Oh I cannot find them all...migraine day. I shall need to come back, but it is amazing, Ces. I love all the undergrowth and I do not think there is too much ink. I want to crawl in there and live in the grove. May I bring my wee little dog too? Can't bring hubby in there for he would start trimming. But I love it Ces, and so will your friend. One of the many things I love about your work is that they are distinctly you, yet all so different. Amazing.
♥♥♥ Deb
Lukewarm are you crazy, it is fantastic.
Tarot card said Ces is not unbiased on her own art and misses her masterpieces.
Come join the caravan of gypsies. You will have to stay in my wagon as we won't be able to be separated.
xoxox
Okay so the deal is off, I can only have you and Bella.
The others can be in the wagon right beside ours.
xoxox
This is most wonderful and I love the way the light parts play in the image of darker spaces.
I think you are being too hard on your self Ces.
LOL!! Ces, I mostly do the fine detail on the smaller pieces like the accordian by feel now that my eyes are getting worse.
Thank you so much Ces, I really thought I was going to have to do it over before I put the white paint on it to accent the words on it. I did get lucky. But I had to have faith, I couldn't even see it before the paint went on.
Have a magical day beautiful one!
I'm still cracking up over that alligator.
Well it is settled you and Bella are gypsies 17 and 18.
Also you will have to be ready for me to say things like what a remarkable banner and I see that the bush is growing exactly where it should on that lady.
xoxox
You know our darling Bella will only kill you in a good way. Now I love this idea but before you pick up a stick how is your hand.
xoxoxo
Ces....i like *enthusiastic pessimist*! It's well known that I live my life through rose colored glasses. I may need a dose of reality ....... ugh!! lol!!
Guess what? Hardly any paynes grey in this one.....maybe on the face a little!! My colors on this one are burnt sienna + ultramarine blue!! Ya baby!! I branched out...lol!
BTW.... i made gypsy 11....lol!
It is never too late Ces, thank you for the anniversary wishes.
And the compliments on my goddeses.
You made my day!
Hi Ces I know you love Renee so so much.... and are the absolute bestess friend to her.
I can hardly wait to see the wonderful drawing of her caravan! I hope when it's done I can put it up on the traveling gypsy caravan blog.
http://travelinggypsycaravann.blogspot.com
I love Renee as well ~ she's my angel.
Pattee
Aaw Baino, I hate that. The same thing happened to my work keyboard and as much as I make typo errors in my personal computer I could not allow myself to do it at work. I demanded a new keyboard before I answered an email.
Ah Anne sometimes I don't use up all the ink but when the pen lines change width and become lighter I need to use a new one. I later use the pens later for light pen work. I have a friend who told me she had the same pens and she mentioned she had hundreds! At first I cold not believe it but when I started drawing, it took no time for me to accumulate pens and one can't run out of them so yes, hundreds is nothing. Dick Blick loves us! Ah yes, you have music on your blog that is why I can't visit you early in the morning! Hahahah!
Silke, hahah! Yes, I tried a heart with initials but made it aged. There are only three or four smiley faces on the scanned area.
Okay LD so now I have to love this one as well. How can it be your favorite if I did not love it too? Hahah!
Caroline, you have a master's eyes and hands and brain...I can say the same about your watercolors! It would make me cry from frustration. I have not even treid it since grade school.
Thank you Annotated. It was something I played with three years ago.
Hahahahah! Oh Deborah, that is funny about your hubby's urge to manicure it. Actually I am with him on having manicured lawn around the home. I really am scared to venture into the forest by myself even though I have had so many encampments, hikes and bivouacs through them. I had bad experiences with LIZARDS, GECKOS, NEWTS and HYDROSAURS! That is why you see them in my drawing!
Oh Marie, I love your work. You have fine hands!
Manon, I see nothing wrong with it. I envy you. I wish I was more like you. Ask my husband how he deals with me, but I need his positive outlook and it's probably why most of my friends have similar disposition as yours. I cannot stand another pessimist. Well it looks like Paynes! Ha! I love ultramarine blue, I use it with every painting.
Renee, thank you for having Bella and me in your wagon. I don't think I would go around a caravan in a wagon by myself, since the jarring and the jostling would not allow me to draw or read, I need the company of people I truly love to make the trip worthwhile. You can say anything you want, you always have anyway!
Thanks Pattee, I will see if the caravan is still on its way. The drawing may indeed take the length of a journey to finish!
Morning sunshine!!! I hope you're day is bright and cheerful!! Try not to work too hard!!
Good morning, sunshine!! What a treat to have a comment from you already this morning!! I'm glad you get to work from home - so much more relaxing environment! I'm going to give in to Winslow dancing around me and go for a walk in the sunshine... Later! Silke
Now I just want to hide lizards in my drawings!
I've never looked this closely at your art; the detailing was so different from what I expected! I'd love to see a video of you drawing those lines!
Cheers!
