Illustration Friday - Pattern

Ginkgo. Colored pencil on 11x14 Bristol Board

.

PLANTAE

Nature provides the best source of patterns.
My favorite patterns of all - The Kingdom Plantae!
Next time,
Look very closely:
Leaves, flowers, fruits!
Tree, trunk, canopy, roots!
Monocot, dicot,
Short, stout, drooping,
Lobed, toothed, pointed, erect,
Striated, Ovoid, conical,
Shiny, dull, furrowed, broad,
Slender, scaly, elliptical, hairy,
Smooth, hairless, yellowish,
Slightly hairy, purplish,
Narrow, brittle,
Flattened, trembling, quaking,
I read a book about plants,
I am exhausted and breathless…
YEAH BABY!

Ah, the ginkgo, otherwise known as Ginkgo biloba, the only specie in its family worldwide. A deciduous tree with a pyramid crown becoming widespread and irregular with age; without flowers or fruits. See why I love it? It describes my body! The males of the specie have cones.
.
It is a living fossil of an ancient and widespread family of conifers. It has been cultivated and believed to have been saved from extinction by Buddhist priests in the temple grounds of China, Japan and Korea.
.
Female trees are objectionable because of the litter of seeds which reek like rancid butter and should not be touched because the smell lingers on contact - just like some women.
.
Ginkgo is hardy and resistant to smoke, dust, wind, ice, insects, pests and disease. Guess who else loves ginkgo leaves?

I drew the ginkgo last night and this morning. This is my favorite time of the day - everyone is asleep and the light is concentrated only in certain areas. I have my coffee in a Sunflower Fiesta mug and I am surrounded by art supplies - heaven! Below is a view of my office. I am surrounded by my children's and best friend's artwork!

  2. Thank you Val. You know me and plants. I think I used to be a gardener in my previous life, now they don't like me to take care of them, just draw them. :)

  3. I adore Gingko! I use it in just about any piece of jewelry that will welcome its form and I have actually done some pieces in pure silver that I had a heck of a time parting with.

I wanted to plant one but they grow big that are best left for bigger spaces than what we have to offer. But B.Loved and I sure would love to have one in our garden. I love yours, but then again, I love everything you do.

  5. Aah! My dear Allegra. It is wonderful to see you today! I can see the ginkgo as a specimen for jewelry, it is perfect! I can see them as earrings! Thank you!

ACK! Deborah! Wake up and open your eyes! You are thinking of someone else! Thank you for the art compliments. I started drawing last night, not a lot though.

  6. I've taken Ginkgo but didn't know much about it. Your drawing is beautiful!!

I'm playing sisterfriend. Been a little under the weather with a ear/sinus infection but I think I'm feeling better.

    ReplyDelete
  7. AAAAHHHHHHH!!! My favorite Saturday playmate!!!!

I am sorry to hear you are under the weather. October 1st is the start of the Flu season. I am writing rules for the flu season! Ha! I missed you! I hope you are drinking lots of fluids and getting enough rest. Did you see Deborah's leggy photograph as a teenager? It's on my blog's previous post!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ces,
Don't see Deborah's legs. Where am i looking?
I bet they're nice and long because they almost hit my chest while I was standing beside her!
It's been rainy and gloomy since I got back hope I stored enough vitamin D to last me the winter!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. In the previous post. It is small but you can see she the fabulous legs! Heheheheh! We are talking about Deborah's legs. HAHAHAHAH!

  10. Ok.... i saw them and it's just as I said..... they strech out forever....lucky girl!! I want me some of those..... instead....I have the longest arms ever....lol

Painted today a little bit. How about you?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I am imagining your long arms! :) Thay could come very handy.

I drew the ginkgo. I am trying to draw but I am really scheduled myself to work today.

I received a couple of ATCs from Caroline - beautiful! I need to make hers. The Bella and I agreed I could stop the contract of not drawing because I have not had any pain but I can't draw for long periods. I tire easily. I have a second aspen painting on the easel.

Do you want to exchange ATC with me? No. I'll just give you a drawing.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Glad you can draw a little! I've never done an ATC. My god they are small...lol! I get frustrated when the face is too small in a journal page because I can't make it expressive.

You can't give me a drawing.... you have to start selling on Etsy and I will buy! You're like me..... give everything away. Are Gemini's givers? I feel like a giver.

    ReplyDelete
  13. YES! Geminis are givers. They are very generous with people they love. Do you have Etsy?

    ReplyDelete
  14. OMG.... my typos? When I reread anything I'm mortified. Most people must think that I failed out of English 101. Maybe I'll say that it's because I'm French.....lol

    ReplyDelete
  15. No Etsy yet...... but I'm going to do it and see what happens. I'm doing prints.... I think!

So.... giver I am! "Hello" my name is Manon..... and I like to give, give, give!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ah if you do it, I will do it then. I have terrible typos. Ask Bella. I am amazed she understands me. Well, I have a very good excuse. I only lerned to speak English when I came to the US when I was 24. - HAHAHAHAHAHA!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am serious. Do you want anything of mine? Just tell me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Girlfriend.... you have the best excuse!! I started in French schools but then we moved to B.C. and i attended English schools! By the time we moved back to Quebec ... I had to continue my education in English..... so really... no excuses pour moi!!

Let's do it! Let's jump in the Etsy pool head first! If I'm going to drown.... I'll drown with you!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Of course... you'll swim like an olympic swimmer and i'll hit the bottom...lol!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ces.... i can't type fast enough! You are speedy gonzales...lol!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Let's do it. We might as well have fun!

I am a poor smimmer but I can dive, man! I learned to dive before I learned to swim probably because of the drop offs in the Philippines. Very scary. People drown easily.

I actually have an Etsy account. I opened it two years ago and I never used it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I can't type either! I type with two fingers! That's why I make a lot of typos because my fingers can't catch up with my brain. My fingers are like a roadrunner on the keyboard. HAHAHAHAHAH!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ok.... we'll do it. Yes.... we'll have fun and be totally clueless together!
Drowning.... yup... unfortunately my brother drowned when he was three and I was a year old. Long story but I had a fear of the water until I was ten. My mother put me in swimming lessons and i was terrified but I did it. To this day I get really frightened when someone tugs at me in a pool!

What a downer that was....lol! OK .... we're moving on!

    ReplyDelete
  24. You are fast!! I saw a couple of roadrunners in AZ! They're pretty cool!

    ReplyDelete
  25. NOOOOOO! I am so sorry. See, life eeks into blogging. Sometimes people think that bloggers have no life, hah! Then here we are sharing tragic experiences. You are my friend Manon.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I thought roadrunners rode in bicycles and have backpacks delivering from door to door?

    ReplyDelete
  27. You are my friend Ces! Yes.... we put ourselves out there don't we?.... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ha, ha! I had no idea what I was looking at when I first saw one. My only reference was the roadrunner on bugs bunny...lol! Beep, beep!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hopefully tastefully. Hehehe! I have met the most wonderful people through the blogs, the people on my links, you are one of them. What is your favorite part of blogging?

    ReplyDelete
  30. THAT... is my favorite part! I'm not involved in the local art league because.... well... it's not my thing around here. Don't think they'd get what I was doing...lol! So.... this has been such a supportive venue for me.

    ReplyDelete
  31. hahahhahahhahah! You made my day girlfriend!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with you. I think blogging has enabled me to be more interested in my art. I still think of it as a hobby except I am a bit bssessive about a lot of things!

    Brrr...I am cold.

I love the lighthearted exchanges, the sense of humor and intellectual stimulation. Most of the bloggers I have kept and maintained contact with are the ones that provide me the greates intellectual stimulation. I am glad to discover new ones of course.

    ReplyDelete
  33. hope you're not counting me as intellectual stimulation....lol!

    ReplyDelete
  39. You inspire me too Ces!! Your work is stunning.... that's why Etsy is for you!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Let's see. You know when money is involved, people act differently. They can always comment and praise but money is something else! Some people are such sychophants, obsequious...hahahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  41. BTW...... Your FPOT is huge! You're a braniac sister!

    ReplyDelete
  42. We'll do it..... because .... I'm not sure .... but it's time to get out there!

    ReplyDelete
  43. HAHAHA! That's Bella's influence. She really is the giant FPOT - Whoa!!! Amazing. She used a word I did not know the other day and it turned out to be a common word. The Viking twisted his nose at me when I told him.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hahahahah! I am embarrassed! It was "hale" as in healthy, hardy. Ha! I had to look it up. HAHAHAHA! She thought I doubted her. HAHAHAHAH!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Btw.... I meant brainiac....lol!

    ReplyDelete
  46. OK.... so the Viking can turn his nose at me! Didn't know it either.....it's because I'm French...lol!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I like baniac better - I need fiber! Hahahahah!

Ah, no he won't. He likes my friends.

Hey! Would you rather I say:

"Hey Manon, you are looking mighty hale and hardy" or

    "Yowza, sister! you're HOT!"

    HAHAHAHAHA!

  48. Gorgeous gingkos. I remember watching a gingko tree blowing in the wind one day in college. All the bright golden leaves fanning in one direction at the same time, shimmering. It took my breath away.

    But yeah, the girls stink.

Love the photos from your garden! Such a fascinating collage. And what is in your sunflower mug? It looks like milk.

Hahahaha, sorry to interrupt your conversation with Manon. Carry on, my dears. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ok... I get the meaning now!! You learn something new every day!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sisterfriend.... I think i may have carpel tunnel...lol! Think I might need a nap..... rest my sinuses!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hey! Yes you Bella Sinclair! Come back here. Come and join us! We are entertaining ourselves! HAHAHAHAH!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  54. Make like a gingko tree and ..... leave.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Now by 'frenchman' you mean frenchwoman and you really mean me, well yes, hell will break out.

    Love Renee xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  56. Gingko, love em.

However, in Philadelphia they do have fruit (they planted the wrong sex of the tree) and it's "God Awful" to smell or try to get off your shoes if you have walked thru the fallen fruit, ask me how I know.

That said, I still love em and their leaves are incredible to observe.

    ReplyDelete
  57. hi Ces! thanks for gettin' lost at my humble place! your art works are awe-inspiring! now, i don't get to appreciate plants only in photography but through your great works too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. I've been struggling with Sunday photo shoot but your plant collage is lovely. Never thought about fiddling with some macro shots! Glad you're back and in the saddle girl!
