Pie! Pie! Unknit That Threatening Unkind Brow...
...but my husband bought cherries and they were from California which he says were not as sweet as the cherries from Michigan. So we had a lot of cherries and they did not taste sweet. I told him two days ago I will bake a cherry pie. GULP! What did I say? And then I proceeded to remove the pit of every cherry with my cherry pitter. What have I done? I really got myself into a jam now.
Then I got sick. I have a cold. Probably from not resting, not eating and having my circadian rhythm disrupted by my night shift.
I stayed in bed all day yesterday and mostly today but I am oncall so I have to work and my pager keeps beeping. I took a hot shower and got dressed at noon. Then my husband came home from the grocery store where he bought me a peach pie because he could not find peach ice cream. He is so sweet, really, he is a sweet and thoughtful man and I love him dearly. He is also very cute especially when he is asleep.
I was not feeling well but I tried not to look the part so he thought I was just being lazy especially that I was on my laptop all morning (never mind that I was working and solving problems) he thinks that every time I am on my laptop I am emailing or blogging. I don't feel well. He was watching reruns of "Leave it to Beaver" and he mentioned why I can't be like June Cleaver, wearing my pearl necklace and high heels and keep a clean house. I just laugh because I know he was joking. Then he asked me "How was your cherry pie?" knowing full well that I have not baked it because I am sick. So I told him that I am not well but I wanted to be well and I told him that I did not want to cook because I did not want them to get sick. He replied that the pie will be baked in the oven and it will kill whatever germs I may accidentally sneeze into it. He was really insistent on having that cherry pie. It's his favorite. He also reminded me to take medication and offered me a drink to hydrate me.
I finally went to the kitchen and decided to bake the pie. When was the last time I baked a pie? three years ago? So I gathered all my equipment and it took mean hour to find everything. In the meantime I could not find my dough mat, I think I may have thrown it away.
As I was gathering my equipment I found my son's hot cheese curls so I poured some on a bowl and started eating it but my mouth was burning so I poured myself a glass of diet coke on ice. Then I looked for the vegetable shortening. I had an unopened can of it but when I checked the expiration date, I decided I had to use butter. In the meantime, Daisy just rested her head on my lap as I sat on the chair. This took about 45 mins.
Then I found some butter and I weighed the required portion but when I put it in the mixing bowl it looked like a lot so I read the recipe again and discovered that I was reading the amount for the flour. So now I had an extra unwrapped stick of butter and I could not find any of my four butter dishes but I finally found one with the glass vases. That took about 15 minutes. I put away the scale but not really, I put it right next to the knife rack and coffee maker where I saw some leftover coffee.
But we did not watch that because this is what we watched which was more appropriate for her:
I could smell the pie from the bedrooms and when I checked I didn't know how long it had been baking on that high temperature, so I decided to estimate the remaining baking minutes. I stayed in the kitchen. So here are some things in my kitchen: my husband cooked dinner - barbecued pork chops on the crock pot, that is a painting of my cobalt and sapphire Fiesta dishes on the wall and that's a sapphire Fiesta wall clock stuck on 8:45.
That's a Viking ship which is actually a salt tray, it measures 2 inches long, those are some Bauer cake stands and a sucky cup, I mean a sake cup that I picked up in Japan.
So more than four hours later, we have a pie.
.
Fie! Fie!, I mean Pie! Pie!

n.b. your pie looks soooo tasty.
Ah, I loved this Ces and can so relate to your day in the kitchen - I've been there too today. Just had to make Gazpacho, just had to make an onion tart, just cos it's weekend and I haven't cooked anything decent all week and I was tired, and even more tired at the end - it's so hot in the kitchen and my legs ached and, and I was so thirsty, so I squeeze lime juice and add sparkling water - ah, delicious. Squeeze the other half into the glass and forget it whilst I'm busy with the blender and then see the glass and think, oh, there's a bit left and swig it down, but it's pure lime juice ......arrrgh!!!
Happy Sunday, hope you feel better soon.

Love the story! You're so good to have made that pie for the Viking! Cherry pie......yum!
I hope you're feeling better Ces!
Not lemon, onion tart! And to satisfy the artist in me I took photos too - sometimes seems I can't do anything without thinking about the greater blogging picture!
C xx
Ces so fantastic and boy that is love. I hope the Viking appreciates it.
Wahid does the cooking and grocery shopping here too.
I love being free as a bird while still married.
The pie looks delicious and so do your dishes.
I love the ram on the table and also the viking salt container.
I love things period.
Love Renee xoxo
Ces you silly goose.
If his head was a penis that would mean I was kissing a penis head and you know that would never happen.
Did you forget that I, like you, am Catholic.
Love your friend penis head.
xoxoxo
Baking a pie from scratch is always an act of love - but cherry pie is truly the ePITome of love!
I enjoyed taking all the detours in your pie-making adventures with you. Your pie looked delicious - nothing better than home-made pie!
I hope you are feeling better.
:0)
P.S. The Bella Sinclair Award is gorgeous! Silke has already presented it to me, and I've passed it on, as well. I am so honored to have received it. The love and generosity of the sisterhood of bloggers fills my heart. Thanks for creating such a special award to honor your dear friend.
Hugs,
Angela
I love this story! There is so much going on. The pictures are fabulous. Oddly enough, this helps me to understand your art! So much going on in that brilliant mind of yours. We are worn out from our Cantina party, but it was a great success. Everyone forgot to take pictures. I have a small collection of cameras left here...shall I surprise them with an odd photo on each? **kisskiss** Deborah
I received your beautifully designed 'Bella Sinclair Award' today from someone special and just wanted to let you know how lovely it was...but that now you also have a new follower!
Oh what a great story, apart from the feeling poorly part, that's not good. Your pie making sounds much as mine would be. I take ages to cook anything and can never find what I want and always get diverted! But you did it. Well done and I'm sure your husband loved it. Did he? Did he appreciate all that work? I made banana bread for Jim and he loved it.
I have a salt container like yours, it's a gondola and says 'From Brigthon' on the side. It should read 'From Brighton', ha ha, I had to have it for the mistake!
Am I missing something with Renee's reply? Penis head?? Where's that then?
My Gawd, what were you on! Very trippy post! The pie looks scrummy and you should ALWAYS use butter for a sweet and shortcrust pie! None of that chemical margariney gloop. Love your colourful kitchen but why is your clock stuck, change the battery silly snossage. Hope you're feeling better, there's nothing worse than cooking when you're unwell. *sneeze*
Baino, the clock is so tall and I don't look at it anyway. What do you mean trippy. like acid?
BT, I knew we have something in common. Oh yes, always buy the things with incorrectly spelled labels and marks. Someday, they will be the right way! I don't know what Renee is talking about it. You know Renee... :)
Hello Wanda, welcome and how wonderful! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
HAHAHAH! Deborah, now what "odd" photo are you going to take? HAHAHA! You are naughty! Yes, that is how my mind works at home but the exact opposite when I am at work - very organized, very determined.
Angela! Hello!!! Pie baking, yes, I told myself if ever I learned to do anything from scratch it is baking a pie. I think it's very sexy!
Renee, what are you talking about? You are confusing BT!
Hello karin, I wish!. The pie tastes wonderful, yes and I love to eat it too! Romp - I like that word.
Ah Manon, the Viking is so good to me always. It'sa the least I can do for him. Thanks.
Caroline! Haha! Like minds. I thinks that's the artist?
Hello Dorthe, congratulations, I loved and enjoyed creating that award. It means so much to me!
Renee, my love, yes an act of love, so it washing dishes and cleaning the bathrooms. Your Wahid is a great guy. The ram, yes, we got that in South Dakota for epsilon II , that was his favorite animal, I am not sure if it still is, maybe a 35-pound catfish may be his favorite now. Thanks!
Where is the bed??
Hope you had a wonderful 4th Ces and that pie looks delicious, did you guys eat it all?
yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! you have so many talents CES!!! wow
