Light and Breezy

She said I illustrated a hurricane instead of something breezy. She must know what she's talking about because she lives in a typhoon belt. So here's something light and breezy. Literally. This was supposed to be simple based on the view outside my office window, see the photographs below. The birds provided an aerial ballet show for me. I have always admired the trees that line the bayou. I thought I'd draw the view. At lunchtime instead of eating, I went to the cafe patio to draw a little bit before I resumed my hectic schedule. It was very breezy. After fifteen minutes, I gave up and went back upstairs. Alas, the wind blew the drawing away. The only way for me to prevent the drawing from being lost was to step on it. So now there were shoe prints on the drawing. Instead of a simple line drawing, I decided to cover the entire board with ink. I initially called this "Twelve Angry Men" but with more foliage, it is turning into a park. If you click on the image at right to enlarge it, you will be able to see the actual size of the human and animal figures.

  3. Oh, Ces. But I LOVED your Ill-Wind picture! And if YOU say it was breezy, then I'll believe you that it was just that. :)

How apropos that the wind tried to take this gorgeous drawing away. I don't blame it for trying. All the teeny tiny people! And all the teeny tiny leaves! Ok, I know you explained the process before, but I still can't help but suck in my breath at the sight of all that beautiful foliage. You have a glorious view, and I'm glad the birds treated you to show.

Don't ever skip lunch again, you hear?

  6. Thank you Arija. I love the way you photograph trees.

Krissie, I am the one being silly. The Daisy post is scheduled. Thanks.

Bella dear, you know a gentle breeze will not flip an umbrella and I think the hurricane-force winds came from the words, not the drawing.

Sidney, not patient at all. I just love doing it.

Hello Soulbrush. It gives me an excuse for solitude.

  7. Well saved from the breeze there Ces. Even da Vinci used to draw on top of his mistakes so you're in good company. Ah that explains why the Daisy post is in Reader!

  8. Darn. I don't know why the reader has to display a scheduled post. Thanks. I screw up my art all the time.

  10. This one took me about four days to finish but I only do it early in the morning before everyone wakes up and then intermittently in the evening. I finished it today while sunning with Daisy, our loving dog.

  11. Hmm... This is weird. How come you have three different avatars? Your main avatar, your banner image and a colored landscape? Funny because when I opened my blog this morning, it was empty. I had to make a dummy post and erase it to make the previous entries visible.

Anyway, I envy people who can work systematically. And also the way you make the foliage. I don't have the patience to make them as interesting as yours. Ok fine, I just don't know how.haha And I know the feeling when you are forced to cover the entire board with ink to cover up a stain.haha This illustration turned out great.:)

Sus! Tignan mo kung sino sila. You are saying that you can't do foliage? I say I can't do your intricate and beautiful lines! That's is why we are all here I suppose. I can't do what you can do. :)

  15. oh, this succession of drawing-dismemberment! Well, maybe not dismembered, but... compromised? In any case, the result is awesome! You bring texture and depth to life!
