Here's a sneak peek of something new I am doing concurrently with the Illustrated Abecedarian Series. This is The Acorn Series. It's a series of botanical drawing of the the plant specie Quercus. It was initiated last week when my husband parked the car in front of an oak tree, the base of which was littered with beautiful acorns. I started picking up some acorns, because I love acorns, and decided to draw them. I did some research for the other species because here in the south we have several oak species but mostly we have the majestic live oak and post oak trees. While most oak botanical illustrations dwell on leaves, I want to emphasize the acorns..
While drawing the series, I keep thinking about the infamous ACORN, which has been in the news quite a lot lately due to their dishonest and fraudulent practices of registering unqualified voters. Their tactic or strategy seems to be overwhelming the system with these bogus registrations that it becomes inundated and overstretched, it runs out of time before the election. This reminds me of the same tactics used by organizers in my former home country before its democratic form of government became a dictatorship.
.
No matter which political party is in control, practices like these puts our democracy in peril. The best thing of course is just to do away with ACORN while propagating these good acorns to fill our beautiful country with majestics trees.

Buckram and Bembo, please take Autumn foliage photographs for me.
ReplyDeleteCes, you blow me away!!! Seems the ACORN folks get in the same trouble as the census folks - they hire young people who would rather sit in their cars with a cola than walk the streets and actually register people. Not really intentional deceit but someone should be watching over the workers - who make $8 an hour for filling out paperwork that turns out to be bogus :(
ReplyDeleteone of my fave trees... but then, i really like em all :D
ReplyDeleteWow, these drawings are pretty terrific, you know!
ReplyDeleteAh RH, we subsidize the damn outfit, even had 500,000 million allotted for them on the first bailout plan that was scrapped. Where is the accountability? Voting is serious business. We don't want B.O. to have a mandate from felons, dead people and mentally retarded residents of care homes and the homeless whose votes were manipulated, would we? Their original goal was honorable but like the United Way twice in separate administrations, ACORN is corrupt. We are the USA. We can do better.
ReplyDeleteLaughingwolf, I know you do and you are lucky to be surrounded by them.
Pieterbies, thank you as always.
Whoa! Missed these. They're gorgeous. I'm guessing by ACORN you don't mean the Australian College of Operating Room Nurses! Apparently ACORN flagged the bogus registrations which have to be handed in anyway ..they don't get processed and you still have to turn up with ID to vote so ..storm in a teacup methinks. They blame lazy workers who filled in the cards rather than solicit real voters! Make voting compulsory and this wouldn't happen.
ReplyDeleteBaino, not much is known about the ACORN misdeeds because the mainstream media does not cover it. One has to read and research to get informed, but Americans are so lazy and rely on television news only. Have been busy with the good acorns.
ReplyDeleteThose first two pictures took my breath away!
ReplyDeleteI really prefer the acorns you draw to the badbad ones you talk about...heheheh. Always interresting blog. I've not been here for CENTURIES!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYour art is Incredible!!!
ReplyDeleteI need to eventually go through your archives, I love your work.
I was born in Kansas City, but moved at age 10. Kensas City still feels like home in my heart.
I enjoyed the photos.
Miladys, thank you. I have started posting them individually.
ReplyDeleteMerlin Princesse, you are my friend. :)
Sandy, thank you so much. I would love to live in Kansas City.
Beautiful photos and wonderful drawings ces. I love oak leaves and acorns. We have 3 red oaks on our land but they are still quite small, so no acorns yet.
