Grape

The Fruity series:

Grape. Uvas. Ubas. Colored pencil on 9"x12" Bristol board.

I drew this grape to replace the tamarind that did not look palatable, even though the tamarind is a tasty sweet and sour fruit that I loved when I was a kid. Tamarind is used for cooking as a base for soups and also may be candied. I don't want to post the tamarind drawing and since I laid out all the fruits I needed one more illustration to make the presentation even. So here is the grape illustration. It took me a while to do this drawing because each grape is composed of six to eight different colors. Yes, I know it is a shade of green but I mixed it with different greens, browns and black, then blended them to achieve the final texture. I hope you like it.

you know, i was thinking: popping these grapes into one's mouth would be especially enhanced if one were wearing a monogrammed bowling shirt.....

Absolutely. Bowling shirts make everything taste good. It is an elevator. It elevates the mood, the class, the style, etc....No kidding, we should get bowlings shirts and one night wear them and eat grapes, fried chicken and french fries and watch Sex and Sin in The City.

I admire all the different shades in the grapes Ces! I also want to see a photograph of you and KJ wearing bowling shirts, eating grapes, fried chicken and french fries, watching Sex and Sin in The City! Just so I can find out what a Bowling Shirt is.

I hope you found the link on KJ's blog. Bowling shirts are so retro, like the 50's diner. I don't think there is anything wrong with them. I never had to wear one. I wore white leather wingtip shoes when I went bowling several years ago. We had a team of friends and our socks matched our shirts. We wore polo shirts and my favorite pants were white baggy pants like Katherine Hepburn pants but then again I only weighed 100 pounds and looked fabulous then.

Thank you Diana. I have never been to a vineyard. Wiat I take it back. There were some in the Hill Country and in the orchard where we picked blueberries and peaches.

Delicious!! I love the grapes and the pineapple is just gorgeous -- how you pack all that shading and color into these drawings amazes me! Do you do one a day? Or more?

Melissa, it takes more than a day to do a fruit because I only do them in the evenings and early mornings. Besides, I really don't have the privilege of just drawing whenever I please. It is usually associated with a home chore.
