Coconut

Coconut. Lubi. Colored pencil on 9"x12" Bristol board.
.
Coconut is a major source of food and industrial crop in Asia. I can post a whole dissertation about it, but you are in luck. I am under the weather. So just enjoy this quick short post. Happy May Day.

.

Here's a previous post about the managete, a man who climbs coconut trees to make wine.

What a loverrrly bunch of coconuts Ces! There they are standing in a row!

I LOVE fresh coconut! Especially when still moist with milk :) The fibres look real in your drawing but I haven't been close enough to the top of a tree to see a young one growing. I remember you have a post somewhere about men who climb the trees!

Please get well soon Ces :)

LOL -- Anon beat me to it ... I was going to sing "I have a loverly bunch of coconuts, twiddle dee dee!" My kids always make me shake the coconuts at the store so they can hear the milk. I think I enjoy it as much as they do. Get well soon! :)

When I was a kid, the young coconut with soft meat that can be scraped with a stringer is called buco or macapuno (a variety of short coconut trees. We made salad and drinks with them. they were called buco salad. When they have matured, they are grated on an equipment resembling a small bench seat where one sits and it has a projection where a cicular blade with small teeth grates the meat from which we squeeze the milk for cooking. It would be better if I had a photograph. Thanks for reminding me Anon. I updated the post with a link to the managete.

Diana, thank you ever so much for coming here and making these fruits sound delicious.. I have a cold and I hate it. I can't stay at home because I have so much to do at work and am saving my vacation days. When we are sick the company uses the first two of our vacation days then the third day may be used for illness. So if we only need 1 or 2 days of rest, we use our vacation days.

Hello Melissa. I must admit I never hadf a reason to buy coconuts at the store for cooking because I don't know how to cook with it.

Thanks for adding the link to the Managete Ces! Your drawings and story tell much more than a photograph. You had a flu back then also!

Oh how funny. Well not really funny but what a coincidence. I hope I do not have the flu. My son gave me his colds. He was sick for four days. Egads I can't afford to be sick for four days. I need someone to pamper me. Fly over here Anon and fan me with your feathers, I feel faint...

dear ces, you are sick. take care of yourself. stay in bed. don't worry about work and vacation time. i will send you money if you approach destitution because you've missed work. so there is nothing to worry about.... :)

i have no relationship with fresh coconuts. the closest i've come is pina coladas. now i'm singing a jimmy buffet song....

*fanning with feathers* That's wing feathers and NOT tail! Heehee

KJ, Destitute? Who is destitute?

Thanks for the fanning Anon. I am glad it is not the tail feathers.

Hope one side of your mouth curled then ... :)

Because it tickles?

CES! You really must wax that moustache even with a very bad cold! HAHA

Ces said...

What mustache? Are you talking to my husband?

Anonymous said...

HAHHHAAA, I was hoping you could manage a slight smile between the snot and coughs, not a tickle :)

i am not crazy about coconuts (to eat) but love their smell. being a vegetarian i love all fruit, except kiwi and quava. lovely illo.

Yes, FY, guava smells like body odor when overly ripe but when picked at the right time, it is crunchy and tasty. You don't like kiwi? My son will have your share. :-)

Anon, I do not have snot but I am coughing and hacking sometimes. Quite fashionably though. What's the onomatopeaia for a cough? "Ack" no.
